Hi!
thinking about buying a new car, or car that's only a few months old, or one of those that has been registered with only a few miles on the clock.....
I see in the news that the car industry is not doing well, so there should be great deals out there..
Any opinions on buying from esato members would be much appreciated !

>500!
I am thinking to buy a Toyota Yaris 1.33 either new or a few months old..
They range from around £9,000 to £11,000 plus... got a car to trade in that's worth about £2,000
I am thinking mainly about what deals are out there considering the current economic climate!

For best deals, you'd have to buy a large car, as they're not selling anymore ! Only joking, a Yaris is a brilliant little car

.
You'd get a better deal though, when there's no trade-in, can't you sell you car yourself ? Might be worth the hassle.

hi!
I think I will trade in the old one.. and pay the balance off in cash.
I guess they would want to push for people to take their finance deals..

a slightly older car is even better deals
2006 audi a3 top of the range v6 with 10k of options (making it a 40k car) went for 10,100. 00 on ebay...

I would think there should be plenty of deals going in the UK at the moment and eBay and auction houses should be full of bargains.
There are a lot of car dealers closing down in NZ, I guess its the same over in UK too?

You're realisticly better off buying nearly new or used than brand new. Most cars lose a small fortune in the first 3 years, and £10k for a Yaris is laughable in my eyes, given what else £10k can get you.
Example (even though it's probably not what you're after, but you get the idea): My brother bought a Mazda RX-8 just before Christmas (best time to buy is Christmas Eve really), 55 plate (so September 2005 - Feb 2006), all the mod-cons (sat nav, climate control, MP3 CD player, you name it) for £7k, and got £3k for his Renault Megane (54 plate), so effectively cost him £4k cash.
See? Car thats only 3 1/2 years old at the most, and it dropped from £25,000 to £7,000 in that time. You have to have your wits about you, try and get a friend of family member who's a bit better with cars to help you out when actually buying it (don't want to buy a lemon), but you can ALOT more for your money, or the same car for ALOT cheaper if you want a Yaris or similar.

Are things this bad in the UK?
New car sales fall to record low
New car sales dropped to an "unprecedented" low last month, the Motor Trade Association says.
Figures released by the New Zealand Transport Agency today showed sales 36 percent down on April last year.
They were also 32 percent down on the year to date versus the first four months of 2008.
Association communications manager Andy Cuming said
3525 new cars were sold last month -- fewer than any time since the early 1970s. "This level is unprecedented in the modern era," he said
Popular companies such as Toyota, Ford and Holden continued to lead sales but "newcomers" such as Kia were breaking into top-10 monthly sales totals.
Toyota had lead the new car market each month this year with 2822 sales and a market share of 16.8 percent.
Ford was second and Holden third with 12.4 percent and 10.4 percent respectively.
Mr Cuming said small cars were increasing popular and made up more than half of all new cars sold.
"Four years ago, light and small cars represented only 37 percent of new cars sold," he said.
Sales of imported used cars also suffered in April.
Nearly 4800 imported used cars were sold -- down 44 percent on the same month last year.
"This is now a consistent pattern, with the total for the first four months of the year down by a similar margin," he said.

Keep in mind NZ has a population of 4.5 million and an average wage that is usually 1/2 that of the US.
