I recently sold my Orange c510 to buy a sim free black version from CPW which i did today. After getting it home i noticed 3 specs of dust behind screen and a dead pixel at top of screen. The dead pixel i am sure its not dust cos it looks multi coloured and different from the specs of dust elsewhere under the screen. Should i take it back? It is annoying and distracting when i look at the screen. Is a dead pixel enough to warrant an exchange? I am fed up with phones getting dust behind screens especially when new. Why cant manufacturers put proper sealings around the screens and sort this problem out? It makes the phone look not new and pi**es me off.

Oh I hate it when that happens. It's one of the reasons I order these things online because it gives me the right to return it and get a full refund within 7 days (part of EU laws) I've noticed a lot of shops in the UK make an issue when come to return it either they won't swap it or won't return your money. With the 7 days distance buying protection you can TEST the product to see if it meets your expectations and return it within 7 days without having to provide any reasons whatsoever. Not all shops in the UK know this, but it is your right. These laws apply on anything you buy at a distance, internet, phone, etc. However they do not apply on auctions.

For this case I would try and get a swap at the CPW and ask them to let you check the phone so you're happy with it. Or get a refund and order it from Tesco or something, if it aint good you an return it to any Tesco, I did that with my old K800i it came with a lit pixel and I just returned it and ordered another one, they didnt even deduct the clubcard points on the returned phone

Yeah cheers going back tomorrow morning to swap. Going to show the assistant what i mean. I heard about the c702 having dust behind its screen. Now that phone is supposed to be dust and splash resistant. As for returns i know the law says 28 days if something is faulty for a swap. Orange offer that but dont offer full refund.

I have had 2 C510's from CPW and both had stuck pixels - tried a pixel fix video and it didnt work so returned them both and now not sure whether to risk getting another one.

@JJ! what reason did you gave them? I found not all shops are willing to swap for some stuck/lit/dead pixels, some even claim there's always some.

I know LG and I think Samsung have a zero defective pixel warranty, but as with laptops and LCD panels this greatly differs per brand.

Well i just returned mine. New one is perfect It seems the other one was made on week14 2009. My new one is made week 13 2009. No dust or bad pixels though its made week earlier. Seems it could be poor batch.

Luckily I bought online from CPW and they have a returns policy unlike the shop, so just stated there was a stuck pixel and got my money back no probs.

1 dead pixel isn't noramlly a warrenty issue , in my digicams manual it says

The LCD monitor is produced with extremely high-precision manufacturing
techniques. More than 99.99% of the pixels operate to specification. Less than
0.01% of the pixels may occasionally misfire or appear as red or black dots.
This has no effect on the recorded image and does not constitute a malfunction.

Probley the same thing for phones, they probley only exchanged it due to the dust under the screen.

My advise is to order it online after checking it out in the shops as it gives you far better rights. You can return any item after testing it, unpacking, whatever is just fine since you have the right to evaluate the product. They have to give you a refund, and you don't have to give any reasons what so ever.
