Is there anyway of replacing the electrical contacts? The phone charges fine, but I recently dropped the phone in the snow and it no longer connects to the PC via USB cable, nor does the music play clearly through the earphones (music plays fine through loudspeaker, so I know the music is fine.)

try this .. when you connect the phone to usb>computer, hold the cable tight near the end to your phone, try moving it a bit, up-down that stuff, pull out very little bit, push back in... if this works and you get a charging indiacator, then its just loose ends inside the case, and mostly can be repaired.... but if still you dont get charging points at all, then im afraid yo'll have to change the entire board as the charging points are on the board

even i have got loose connections... but it's not so loose... i get charging and connection and headphones working...

hope it helps. do reply

I tried that a few times. I've just tried connecting the USB cable through the mains charger, yet the phone charges as normal but still won't connect to the PC!

ok. so your USB point is gone then... sorry about that. you're lucky your charging is okay. mine charging is also buggy like other connections...

now you have two options...
#1 => get the service manual, open the phone and try to sort out the usb connectors yourself.
#2 => get the phone to a service centre

bonus option => try connecting the usb at friends house with different cable. just as precaution. try this.

I've also tried with two USB cables on two PCs so it doesn't seem a one-off.

It's not just the USB. The music through the earphones is very fuzzy, and the FM radio is EXTREMELY quiet!

ok the fuzzy music surely indicates damaged connectors from inside... get it to the service center. no other option. it might be expensive, i say...
if you really dont want to spend, i suggest you forget music headsets on your phone, forget radio, and to get files to and fro from pc, use card-reader....

or >;- )
you can sell the phone!
and get a new one...

Lol the W960 has an 8gb hard drive and no memory cards! Having to use Blueteeth between the PC and phone.

I think i'll have to get a Bluetooth headset as I need the Walkman as being in a gym for an hour a day with no music is very boring!
