> Waterlogged C510
Bookmark topic
I had a major accident with my C510 which got quite of water inside it. It went through the top back of the phone while it was switched on so the whole screen including the camera was seriously water logged. I did not switch it off but took apart the phone and removed the cover, battery, sim and opened the camera slider as soon as i realised and have been using a fan to dry it out for over 12 hours now. But i was brave enough to decide to try to switch it on to test check how serious the damage was. So far it does switch on, and everything seems to work ok including the camera. The screen is darker than usual and can see patches and lines due to the water.
I have reported it to my network incase i need to claim the water damage on my insurance as i know the warranty with Sony Ericsson is no longer valid due to the fact the battery sticker has turned red which indicates it has been exposed to liquid and they would know even on the PCB that water damage has occured.
I am really gutted that this has happened to my phone as i am normally very careful with all my phones and never had any incidents like this happen to me before. So i would like to ask for more advise in what further action i need to do to help my phone.
How much or a chance is there of my phone surviving this event?
Should continue drying it out or is it ok to use it now?
If i need to continue to dry it out further and what would be the best way?
Would the screen remain as it is or eventally dry out and go back to normal?
How much of a chance is there of my phone surviving this event and would the phone developing faults or eventally give up due to the water damage?
All your suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

About the LCD - Theres not really much you can do, the water stays like that because it gets caught in between the lenses and diffusers behind the LCD.
The main problem with water is it can corrode parts inside the phone. The best way to help it survive is take the phone all apart, and leave all the pieces somewhere warm and dry.

Turn the phone off, and leave it in a bowl of dry rice for a few days, that will suck up all the moisture possible

The main thing that makes it corrode is salt combined with water(The process can take some weeks). If the phone was exposed to salty water atleast I would clean the mainboard and components with some liquid. If you have strong alcohol (Ethanol, methanol or like.) I would use that, else non-salty clean water could work.

#1 take all the phone apart... all the simple pieces, the casing , lcd etc... search google on how to take it apart...
#2 place all pieces on tissue paper, and below a fan, do not fast-blow air as it will cause some water to penetrate deeper
#3 let it be like that for 2days, blow dry battery by dryer.... do not switch on...
#4 now re-assemble and connect...
#5 hopefully most of the phone will be working, if water hasnt shorted the internal circuit
do let know about results

Thanks for the response and suggestions so far.
The phone was only exposed to water.
To be honest, i feel that i could not take the risk to de-assemble the phone apart even with instructions as i'm not that skilled and worry i will just f it up even further.
Oh, so the screen is truely f'ed then? But it still suprises me that the rest of the phone still works but i don't think that will last long either.
I had no other handset to able to use being away from London over the week-end so had to re-use my damaged c510 after temporay drying it out, I'm thinking just to keep using the phone untill it eventally gives up on me, then claim it on my Network insurance as Sony Ericsson won't help the phone which is now classifed as liquid damaged.
I have heard there is different ways of drying it out, silca gel, cat litter, dry rice, hairdryer, airing cabinet etc but i honestly i don't feel i have any more hope on my phone anymore as the damage has been done.

I submerged my P990 once in a swimming pool, eveything was okay then except for the bluetooth and camera. I eventually installed a new camera module and it worked fine ever since. The dark patches on the screen will go off once it completelt dries off so no worries there

Thanks for the re-insurement so far but i'm still so upset about what happened. My boyfriend suggested to place the phone in cat litter in a closed food container over night to help draw any water that may be left in the phone which i'm gonna try. I still need to test the other functions of the phone but so far the camera inc light, keypad, mics, charging connectors seem to be working ok.
Edit: Front camera, Bluetooth, M2 slot and card, side camera and volume button, back speaker, 3G/wap are all ok. Just have the radio through the connector left to check.
It seems that i may have managed to save the phone in time and from more serious damage occuring.

hey frubin , nice to hear that!
hope your phones all right...
if all of these are working, i'd say your lucky!
you got your phone back!
i doubt anything else is not working#as the things you mentioned are the first ones to stop working...
check speakers, and while making a call...
also check th battery temp after prolonged use
if everything okay, your off to go lady!!!
have a good time!
