I have read it costs me about 20p to sent a text message to Australia from my o2 UK handset.
But, does anything know if I will get charged for receiving them?

No you shouldn't get charged for receiving them.
Ring up o2, they may have a bolt on for international texts that will make the charge 10p i.e. the same as sending to a UK number

No you wont. I send lots of texts to my friend in Hungary and my cousins in Ireland I dont get charged for recieving. That would be wrong cos your not roaming
