No such thing as an iPhone mini - unless you're counting one of the many clones from asia....
The only ones that have ever been marketed are:
iPhone 4gb (2g)
iphone 8gb (2g)
iphone 8gb (3g)*
iphone 16gb (3g)
iphone 16gb (3gs)*
iphone 32gb (3gs)*
The only ones you can buy new from a retailer should be the ones with stars... (true for UK at least!)...
Mediocre hardware, Excellent software and a huge library of good software which makes you put up with the general hardware crapness...

I think if you made an iphone mini then the screen res would maybe be lower so that could rule out using apps from the app store? Kind of a dud idea really. The 3G iphone is quitre cheap now so that will probably just be the lower end model.

Nope, it turned out that the current 3G one IS that mass market phone, seeing as the 3GS is more expensive.
Apple don't need to make it mass market, despite the credit crunch it already is a mass market phone, even at the high price. God knows why, I STILL don't see the attraction...

Think the hype over the iphone has gone off the boil a bit. I dont see the attraction either there are phones out there that do far more than the iphone in terms of features and quality. Yes it has a great interface but so what. When i seen a video of the new 3GS iphone the guy said amazing new features like MMS video recording and 3.2 mega pixel camera. Are you kidding? Them features are years old now.

Back on topic...
I saw a picture in a magazine last year of what a iPhone mini might look like and if apple built that product it think it would sell very well. The trouble is with the business case - $99 for the 3G doesn't leave much room to go down market unless Apple decide to target the PAYG market which would require a major shift in policy for them and would only happen after any contracts with AT&T end.
I'd like to see such a product but common sense says it won't happen in the foreseeable future.
If the US economy gets much worse, we might see things change though.

They could try and target the large prepaid market outside the US of course...
