ok ive read a lot of questions about T-mobile gprs. here is what is happening (my brother for data/tech for tmobile)

1. GPRS IS active

2. you pay 2p per 1kb or can pay for a 10mb package that costs £20

3. if you call t-mobile most if the normal operators dont have a clue that GPRS is active, if you want it, dont be put off...ask to be connected to the data/tech department

4. i am averaging about 48Kbps at the moment, its pretty quick and have had no trouble with it

any other questions just ask

Thanks for your post on GPRS,

I glad I found someone with the same problem, everytime I phone T-Mobile I get different responses from people who dont know what's going on! They have even buggered my SMS by trying to set up MMS!

Today I was told that the 10mb package will only be available soon! I tested the normal 2p per minute one, My Bluetooth software dialed *99# or something from my mobile, is this right? I will give them a ring again and demand the new package!! Do you get a different number to dial up for this?

I spent about 20 mins and only chatted and i think it was about 177Kb so not sure that 10mb would be enough? I know when it loads up that it goes to about 70kb then gradually increases but you are charged for only the information recieved right??

anyway, appreciate the response have messaged you as well with the same post.

Ben.

ok here is a few more info, hope it helps:

the number to dial to access GPRS is:

*99***?#

where the "?" is the CID number they give you when they setu up your details.

the £20 for 10Mb is a pretty crappy deal...but it has been avaiable to general public for about a month now.......but compared to paying £200 for 10Mb on the 2p per 1kb thing its ok ) unless you are loaded (and if you are loaded and feeling generous help a student finish his engineering degree by contributing ) (how cheeky am i)

or unless your wprk pasy for it....you should get the £20 package....but like i said..make sure to do all of this through the tech support people...not the normal call centre people since although they are usually helpfull they know NOTHING about GPRS.

ok here is some stuff i am alomst certain about (89%):

GPRS t-Mobile prices WILL go down as more use it...very soon i hear

GPRS is being tested by T-mobile (i probably shouldnt announce this cos its not 100%) to run at full capacity ie. 115.6Kbps by hopefully summer so it can compete with the slow rise in 3G stuff

laters all hope i helped

Thanks for your help GingerDiscoBalls, have been able to connect my PC to the Internet via blutooth and my mobile.

PiotrMmX the charges are only for data recieved not sent, just spoke to the operator from technical dep of T-Mobile.

Lets hope they bring out a better data deal.

I've been using GPRS on both Vodafone live! and T-Mobile for a short while not, there doesn't seem to be much in it as far as speed goes maybe T-Mobile is a little quicker but if you're talking availability the T-Mobile is much better, I can only seem to get Vodafone live! 50% of the time as their GPRS always seems to be down
