How is it a joke? This is an excellent move for all companies involved.

well it have been stressed for many yrs by EU.... well the joke is created by EU and the makers cannot defy the "joke" set by government body
btw...who going to need charger when the day come with everyone go for induction charging like palm pre hehehehe
the interesting part is the news claim APPLE is joining...meaning future iPHONE need to have microUSB...or something else? they have a unique adapter to link up its connector to microUSB? I like to see what Steve planning to do....

This is a great move and especially as Sony Ericsson will finally be rid of the cumbersome port i hate it. Though one good thing about the Sony Ericsson fast port is it does always fit securely and never wobbles whilst charging

this is a good thing....i have had to get rid of so many different charger/port plugs because they're only for one phone. this is so wasteful.....i just hope the USA follows suit...

Sometimes the problem lies on the charger's plug and not the fast port itself. I've had two or three silly chargers coming off newer phones (C702, W890, C905) while an ancient one from the W800 box (which is four years old at least) still works perfectly. Mind you, I tested all four on a C905 which is relatively new and shouldn't really have gotten the fast port syndrome.
