Symbian^2 is Symbian Foundation, not S60.

@diportivo... lets get the question and answer correct!
Firstly its not about what type of application is supported as S60 and Symbian foundation both support jar, sis and sisx files and apps.
S60 is a symbian OS made by Nokia for their handsets.
Symbian OS is made by the Symbian Foundation and used by a number of other manufacturers.

the 6233 has an s40 OS so it wont run sis or sisx files as these are based on and for the s60 OS. Ur phone supports the use of jar or jad files and .thm files for themes.

Lets get basic first.
Previous versions of Symbian OS (the core) was created on Symbian Ltd. This included:
MOAP (NTTDoCoMo)
UIQ
S60
(cannot recall the 4th obscure version).
S60, UIQ, and MOAP I'd consider as deep coded GUI's. My reasoning is because ALL are listed as running Symbian and base their versions off of Symbian 9.1/.2/.3/.4 etc.
Nokia worked with many company's (SonyEricsson: UIQ, Nokia:S60/S90dead, Motorola: UIQ non-touch implementation, NTTDoCoMo, Vodafone, etc) to purchase the remaining Symbian & GUI licenses. NTTDoCoMo still owns MOAP but is willing to grant the full source code to Symbian Foundation. This initiative formed, well Symbian Foundation - not ALL employees are from Symbian LTd even though the same headquarters location is the same or close by in London UK.
Symbian Foundation will use the uniqueness of all the platforms (benefits non of the bugs or issues) combined to form Symbian^2/^3/^4 etc. From NOW ON the OS will be called Symbian 2, Symbian 3 etc.
The first phones compatible for an OS updated will be OmniaHD,

Satio/Idou, Nokia N97 and Nokia 5800XM.
This is because Symbian^2 is heavily based on S60 5th Edition 5.1 (not a feature pack but an evolution of what 5800XM and N97, and 8910HD are shipping with).
