I know I have to back up the phone, but I'm talking about real, more serious consequences. I have a C510a from a carrier in Mexico (Telcel). The thing is branded and won't let me update its firmware (it has R1DA031, I believe the newest one is 34). I'm using one of those pre-paid SIM chips.
So, to me, a serious consequence is the phone losing its configuration data, as in MMS server gateways, configuration to use and be able to access my carrier, etc. Basically, anything that would leave my phone unusable because the network configuration isn't there anymore, which would have me researching for all these domain addresses and what not.
I'm not exactly new to advanced cellphoning, but I've never done anything this complex. So please, help me understand what exactly happens when one debrands a phone. Thanks! Also, if you could point me in the right direction to a debranding tutorial here (I've found some ancient ones, as in T610 times) that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hi and welcome
As you're from Mexico and i'm from Dominican Republic i can explain you in spanish.
Translated: Debranding a phone will get your phone as from factory. You will have no customized ringtones, images, shotrcuts. Sometimes the operators disable some features. The gprs, mms and other configs can be requested to the operator freely.

It really helps to understand what people are talking about when they speak a foreign language, doesn't it? No.

But tranced, if you would have answered it in english, then members like me who are interested in increasing their knowledge, would be grateful.
I believe that all the topics are not for the the person with some problem and the person who has resolved it. It is for all so that in future, if they face something similar, they are not tempted to start a new topic.
