It means that your phone is locked to the network. Based on your post, I would say that you have a padlock (closed) on your NCK. It means that you cannot use any other SIM cards from other providers.

That is, you can only use the SIM cards of your carrier.

You dont need a code to determine the manufacture date of a Ericsson/Sony Ericsson phone. remove the battery of the phone and on the back of the phone, you will see something like **W**
eg: 02W51 means it been made in week 51 of year 2002. the the first two letters are the last two digits of the year of manufacture and the last two numbers denotes the week of the year.
