hi!

this is a hypothetical question, because I know I should not switch my Garmin 760t on inside an airplane

but would it track fast enough ?

there is no reason to not switch your Garmin on in a plane, it is passive, well, except for minimal BT functionality which you should be able to turn off (settings, bluetooth)

I have often tried my Garmins on the plane and it tracks very well. Use "off road" setting in settings/navigation for best results

in fact I often have BA or Qantas staff piering over my shoulder with interest

edit: mind you, as an aviator, I also have the Garmin 295 which is an aviation unit as well as a road unit, and for flying it provides proper Jeppeson mapping with airspace and altitude alterts etc that you find in built in avionics as well as approach profiles and holding and all the usual features neccessary for IFR flying

if you ever consider learning to fly it is well recommended

Not that its the same, but have forgotten to turn my mobile off when on a airplain. So onetime i got a call over spain when flying home from Lisboa..

I know how to switch bluetooth off so will give it a try!

might even try out some screen shots!

update to this!!

my Garmin would not pick up a gps signal inside the aircraft

Tried and tried again and switched on and off a few times..

no idea why...

I used my Quest (before a toerag nicked it) on a flight to Canada it recorded 569 MPH and 37k feet altitude all very valuable if you tried to use it to show a constable that you did not exceed the 70MPH spped limit. You do need to be sat next to a window though so the unit can see the satellites.

Thanks, I was sat in my seat for 30 minutes trying to get a signal... the airplane was not moving.
