Hi Peeps,
Anyone know a way of getting out of paying a speeding fine?

Supposedly doing 37MPH in a 30MPH area.

I've been searching on the net and there are various 'bibles/guides' to writing letters etc to get the fine scraped.

Do these work?

All help appriciated.

Thanks.

Get them to send you a picture. There is not much you can do if you were actually exceeding the speed limit without doing lots of checks against the site of the camera to make sure it is a legal installation.

Definitely get a picture from the camera. Unfortunately most Gatso (standard) speed cameras have a 10% tollerance so you're a bit out of this, but some can have tollerances up to 37 mph (again you are on the limit here)

Make sure the camera is completely yellow and can be seen from 60 metres away with no obstructions like buildings or trees.

If you are feeling particularly sneeky go get yourself a can of dark spray paint and write a nice gang sign on the back of it so you can claim it wasnt completely yellow and so you didnt see it.

Otherwise you make just have to cough up the fine nd take the points.

or hope you get the chance to go on a speed awareness course, like I have, all seems like a con though to it's £10 more than the normal speeding fine but you get no points, but i fear 3 points means nothing to insurance at all?

You could always try what I did when I was caught at 87mph in a 70mph Zone. Just ignored it!

And that was 3years ago! No points or fine! Lol! But maybe I just got lucky?

Try and see if it is all yellow and if it the correct distance, if they are they just pay the fine or go on the course.

Also does anyone know anything about these average speed cameras? They take your average speed over a set distance and if your over they fine you apparently.

you could always try what a friend of mine did, he asked for a picture when it arrived it was'nt that crystal clear so said it was'nt him driving the car at that time, said he'd let a friend borrowed it and now they've moved to spain lol he ended up with no fine or points....i know a few who's got away with it doing that (not me only because ive been lucky and not got caught yet!)

though I don't condone deceipt...

in UK, identification of the driver is covered by section 172 of the [1988 c. 52.] Road Traffic Act 1988

this places the obligation to identify the driver on the vehicles keeper, and that is pretty much all there is to it unless they cannot identify the driver in which case (more or less) they are implicity guilty of the offence (I'm no lawyer so read that as you wish)
