So Nokia has signed a deal with Microsoft to use a mobile version of Office 2010 but Nokia have confirmed that they won't be running WM on Nokia handsets. Analysts seem to be reading all sorts of things into this annoncement. Some are saying it's the end for Windows Mobile while others are saying it's the end for Symbian.
No-one seems to be saying it's the end for Apple and RIM who's respective success is likely the reason for the alliance along with the impending explosion of Android devices.

What do you think is happening? Are the days of WM numbered? Are the days of Symbian numbered? Do we care? Would Office 2010 make you buy a S60 device? Will Smartbooks take over from smartphones? And most importantly, how will it affect who are developing on 3 platforms?

I dont like WM system i tried it once i hated it. Symbian on the other hand is better but its still too slow for me. I am looking forward to new Android Sony Ericsson handsets. Perhaps thats the future who knows. Though i say i think Symbian is slow my last Symbian phone was an N73 which was ages ago and slow. I have no idea about this new venture with Nokia. Sounds good.

Seeing it from the side, they let go uiq and then jumped to the winmo. Now they let it go for android. Satio will run symbian s60 5th edition. So i could say it's not the end for the symbian s60 5th edition but winmo.

there's a topic (that I started) in the rumours forum called "Microsoft to exit mobile OS market in 2 years?", but thats 3rd party speculation... Microsoft never said it themselves, in fact they are actively denying it from what I have read

I've read speculation from analysts about a 2yr deadline but Microsoft are still saying they remain committed to WM long term.

I tried to find where I've read it, but it seems I misremembered, and that it was in your rumour thread. I'll try to be more carefull in the future.
