I'm sure some die hard Ericsson fans, and those dissapointed with will have something to say about this news...

Reuters article

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Loss-making handset maker Sony Ericsson said on Monday Chief Executive Dick Komiyama would retire at the end of the year, with Ericsson executive Bert Nordberg to take the helm from October 15.

So komiyama-san is giving up? He failed ressurecting SE with the mess that flint had made, i dont even think this new CEO will gonna make it as well... from here i can already see SE following Siemens' fate perhaps the divorce between Sony and Ericsson is imminent imo.

I always think weather the the actual partnership is the problem. Maybe they just are not suited.

Mr. K didn't even get the chance to prove himself. I thought it'd be good to have a Japanese dude at the helm , what with their work ethics and everything. Not so sure if this is a good move, but I think I should brace myself to revert back to Ericsson

I often wonder who is more at fault Ericsson or Sony? I also often wonder what Sony and Ericsson phones would be like now if they were both seperate? Be interesting. I used to love Ericsson phones but Sony phones were crap back in the day. Sony should have learnt alot more from Ericsson now about phones. But the main point now i guess is who is going to shake things up.

It sounds good to me. Sony CEO as Chairman as well. Sounds like the cavalry are here. And about time too!

It's a never-ending argument but I still feel that modern SE phones, certainly the feature phones, are very much in the Ericsson mould still, based on Ericsson conventions and technologies. That's usually a cue for someone to claim that's the problem, and that they need to be more like Sony and more like the phones they have in Japan, but then - Sony have had many years in which to do that, and in reality they've done very little other than contribute some branding and some camera sensors. So you have to ask who's really holding SE back?

I suspect many of the problems are down to committee-style leadership (like the Ericsson CEO/Sony Chairman combination we have now) with neither side able to really push forward with any joint vision or direction. The current situation with the smartphones is a case in point - trying to produce a phone for every possible OS and just taking forever to release even one as a result - it just smacks of compromise and split decisions. They should have tacked the iPhone et all head-on a long time ago, with something innovative and class-leading, and instead we just got a rehashed HTC handset and some empty announcements about possible future models that still aren't here...

This might sound like a stupid question but do Sony make seperate phones in Japan? Or for the far east? SonyEricsson were great but now they are just average. I feel sad. They could have so much potential to be the best. Who the hell is putting together the latest phones? Is it kids or something? They all either fall apart or have terrible build. Take the c903 the potential for being a great phone and it feels like a fisher price toy. I want to go back to SonyEricsson but not yet. Though i must say i am reading lately less and less really bad complaints on these forums regarding problems. Maybe things are improving slowly. Having Sony CEO on board can only be good i say.
