Hi guys,

I've just got a sim free W995 and am loving it except I cant download things from planet 3.
I'm looking in particular for the email on 3 application and msn messenger but when I go to download them, it says operation failed after trying for 2-3 secs.

Does anyone know if this is because it is a non-3 handset or there is another reason?

Is there any where else I can download these particular apps from or else whats the best way to get them from planet 3?

Thanks in advance!

If you have debranded the 3 Applications would be gone.

I havent debranded, the phone was sim free when i got it.
I can get onto planet three from mobile.three.co.uk while using the 3 internet connection (this wont work on any other connection) but am unable to download new applications from there.....

hope that makes it a bit clearer

Best thing would be to debrand your phone.

He already said it is sim-free so it is already debranded.

the 3 firmware contains certificates which allow you to download those applications, phones without the 3 firmware wont have the required certificates to download the applications. It will also be the same if you try to download games from planet 3. I used to work for 3 and this always frustrated me as we got a staff sim with free calls etc and free downloads but as I was using an unbranded phone I could not make use of these downloads

Your best bet is to have a search and see if anyone has hacked the files to not check for the security certificate.

Unlocked(Sim-Free) does not imply it is debranded,

The phone is on o2 contract without any branding... Does this make a difference to the certificates you were talking about with 3? I can't find any of those apps anywhere. Any ideas?

yes only the 3 specific firmware has the relevant certificates to allow you to download msn and games etc for planet 3. I think skype can be downloaded without the 3 firmware on the phone. Cant remember which things you can and cant get now. Its over a year since I stopped working for them
