Ok, I successfully debranded my AT&T w518a to a w508 and everything is fine except one thing - the silver button shortcuts. The upper left one used to activate the camera, which was VERY useful, but now it is MEDIA - can't remember what the right button did, but now it is SEARCH (still don't know what that function is for).

Does anyone know how to change the function/shortcuts of these silver buttons???

I asked SE but they said that they did not know how, other than the branded versions.

(Oh, also, I've seen about an "improved" camera driver for the c905 is it compatible yet with the w508?)

If you debranded your phone using a generic firmware then you should be able to assign shortcuts by going to: menu, settings and in the General tab go to Shortcuts

Btw that camdriver is for that specific phone. Your phone has a different camera.

No, the Shortcuts option applies ONLY to the red central Nav button, not to the two upper silver buttons.

Is there an upgraded camera driver for the w508?

Oh it's very limited with that phone.

A camdriver for that phone? I haven't seen any. Maybe Brazzuka's know about them.

I've PM'd Brazzuka about that, as I found the ORIGINAL w508 driver, but not the appropriate modded one, so I asked him for a direct link.

Found out the Camera default functions are CRAP as well - I do NOT want my default function when I take a pic to be SEND, I want it to be Save or Take Another Picture. That Send option is just plain STUPID, period.

So now I have 2 issues, the 2 "soft" (silver) button functions, and the default camera options. I'd also like to be able to SAVE the camera options I select (like Burst, etc, as I use Burst most often because you can zoom in with it, but you can zoom in normally - now how STUPID is that???)

Now since this is all programmed in (one way or another) to the camera, it makes sense that there is a way to CHANGE that functioning (I'm a designer, not a programmer, so while I know it *can* be done, I don't know *how* to do it).

I don't know who approves of the QC'ing of these cameras, but they should be drawn & quartered for sheer stupidity.

i'm pretty sure you can't change the left soft key. the right one however can be
done .... my w705 has "search" by default and I've changed it to "contacts".
you need to mod the / add the "right_softkey_hook".

Well if you can do the left, doesn't it stand to reason that there should be "left_softkey_hook" somewhere?

How do I modify the Right one?
