Hi, i would like to know what do i need to look for when buying a W995 from the experience of owners here at Esato.

I know that i should look for a wobbly slider, but i would like specific intructions to detect a possibly faulty slider, IE: testing it while open, or while closed... in what direction to move it, and what to expect.

Many thanks in advance!

EDIT: Also, production dates without problems would help me a lot.

It is also a good idea to check the production date. The newer the better.

Yes slider can be bad i had one made in week 37 from Carphone and the slide was very very bad. It literally rocked like a see saw. Also the battery cover does not always click into place very well though the kick stand helps to keep it in place too which is an added bonus. Otherwise the phone is fine

Thanks Bonovox, how was the faulty slider more noticeable?... when open or when closed?... did you have to press somewhere to notice it or would it just wobble while you were, lets say, texting?

EDIT: Did the problems appeared right away or after some time using the hanset?

I had problems right out of the box with poor build. The slide was worse when open it was moving to the left a fair bit when open but that was not so bad. What was bad was when pressing the D pad and whilst just generally using the keys the slide would rattle. If you tap the bottom of the slide it would just make a noise and feel like it was going to fall off. I had 3 like that and the first one actually broke. Most people dont have major problems with it but i did i was unlucky. It was solid when closed but still not perfect. Back cover would just fall off. I had the black one so not sure if red or silver are better built which for some reason is the case sometimes. Good luck.

Also press on the battery cover where you see "Sony Ericsson". It has more feel to it than W910 keypad. Also, the battery cover will feel loose near the walkman button on the side.

I hated that Walkman button on the side. Where its placed i was always knocking it by accident especially when using camera
