Ok, data in our house is becoming a premium and despite having a couple of 1tb mybooks we're just running out of space when it comes to backups and saving videos, music, pictures etc

so... I'm looking for a NAS box that can take 4 drives and support raid

any suggests from experience for a reliable gigabit NAS box that supports hot swapped 3.5" drives with raid? preferably with USB ports so I can plug in the existing USB 2.0 mybooks too

2tb drives are now available at ebuyer for £125 so I'd like to get 4 and will prob configure as raid 0 initially for max capacity

Have you considered getting a Drobo? They're brilliant.

one of the podcasts I watch regularly is GeekBrief and they talk about the Drobo quite a bit, but it seems very overpriced compared to other solutions out there, and it only seems to have firewire or USB meaning it has to be connected to a pc whereas I'm wanting something that will connect to a router using ethernet. Most others support a gigabit ethernet connection

Check the DroboShare add-on. That adds network functionality. It's a bit expensive, but it'll get the job done much better than anything else on the market
