Hey, i want to update the software for my phone because i experienced a little glitch.

I switched Standby themes to "Full Page" and it flicked to the main screen, but it was blank, no shortcut keys at the bottom and not all the normal icons at the top.
And when i pressed Menu, it would pop up for a split second and then dissappear. I had to restart my phone to change it back to Sony Ericsson Standby theme, where it seemed to function normally.

So my question is this, i want to update the software on my phone in hopes of eradicating the problem, however i am not sure whether to download the SE PC Suite, which if i remember correctly from my old one, had "Update Manager" or if i should download the "Update Service" program which i find under support on SE's homepage ?

Download an download manager for your model and update phone like the program write on desktop...but it is possible that your unit is failure model l believe sonyericsson pulled out Satio from the UK market because of some hardwere issue..hope the update will solve your problem.

Yeah, im going to try and update the software, hopefully that will help =)
I can always try. But i wasnt sure which program to use- The one from PC Suite or the one from their Website called Update service..
because there is a considerable difference between the PC Suite 17Mb and the Update Service 32Mb?

Use both. The PC suite to backup your data and the update service to update your phone software, if a newer version is available.
