Until recently I was running an old(er) version of Google Maps for Mobile quite happily on my P910. I then uninstalled it along with some other apps to free up some space temporarily, naively assuming I could re-install the current version available from http://m.google.com/gmm at any time.

Wrong!

The current version does not run on a P910

So, does anyone happen to have the .sis for a version of GMM that *does* run on a P910? Or can point me in the right direction of a download?

TIA.

You'd have to reflash

Reflash? How will that help?

It's hard to find an old version of Google Maps. It needs a hard reserach.

Tell me about it! I did find v2.3.2 on one site, which installed okay, but would always crash after the start-up

Other than that, no joy.....

Maybe yours was a little older than that one.

Anyway, reupdating it would bring it back.

Yes mine was v1-something IIRC.

By 'reupdating' do you mean 'reflashing'? If so, I don't see how this will help. GMM was never part of the original s/w build of the phone.

Oh I thought it was. Well, in that case you are lost I guess. Let's keep searching...

I now know that the GMM version I'm downloading from Google is not the 'latest' version but rather the version that Google *thinks* my phone should be running, v2.0.10. It would appear though that Google's download system incorrectly identifies my phone as an UIQ *3* device (eg, a P990 or P1i), which is what v2.0.10 is specifically for. This is the reason why v2.0.10 won't run on my P910.

[A search on Google incidentally reveals incorrect phone identification is a common complaint about the Google Maps downloader. It's all well and good trying to automate the process but if total reliability can't be guaranteed, a mechanism to manually identify the model to the system should surely be provided too?!]
