Hi all,

From 2-3 days i am facing this problem. Actually it is not causing any disturbance on my phone or in call but i really like to know why?

The problem is whenever i make call or any call received, as soon as i picked up the call or the person on other hand picks up the phone, i get one warning message pop-up on my screen, saying 'Ciphering is not available from your provider. Insecure transmission.'

I have called my service provider but he suggested me to change the handset and check. He added that there is no problem from his side. There may be some settings changed in your handset regarding the call. (Dumb people)

I have checked by using my sim in nokia and samsung mobile but no warning at all. I called my cousine as he is using the same provider sim and a sonyericsson phone. He also confirms that his z550i is also giving the same attention warning. May be other mobile are not configured to display that warning.

Can anyone actually tell what is that warning all about?

Thank you.

ciphering is used to prevent wiretapping....

most network providers have ciphering on at all time while others has functions in their network that switch ciphering on/off automatically...

it is possible to switch off ciphering so you don't have to hear the noise, but this can only be done by a servicepoint.

here is another discussion about it:
