My Iphone contract ends on the 8th of this month .I called o2 a week ago to cancel my contract ,no problems.
Ive had my contract number transferred over to a new o2 payg sim which i received yesterday.
I got a txt last night to say my number will be ported over tomorrow (today) .
My contract sim no longer is active , Ive put the new payg sim in but when i try and call it it keeps telling me the numbers not recognized.
When i try and call the payg's original number thats working.
How long does it normally take for a new number to be ported over?
Thanks

it can be several hours between the old deactivating and the new being fully provisioned

You normally need to activate your number on pay and go by topping it up and making a call or sending a text. Its then activated. I just moved back to O2 i had to do the same. I was on Vodafone then Tesco but decided on O2. Its working fine now but you do need to activate it via a top up. Not sure if thats the case with yours. Normally takes 2 days but your number could be currently inbetween moving still. Have you told O2 to transfer your number onto that sim? Your not using the same sim as the contract one are you because that one would be dead. Your number should be transfered onto a new pay and go sim. The number porting also normally takes place between certain hours during the day. Good luck.

Ok thanks ,Its probably still being transferred over then.
Yeah o2 have sent me the new sim out which is supposed to have the new number ported over to.The old contract sim is dead, and Ive put my new sim in topped up but still not working as of yet.
Ill give it a few more hours or so and give them a ring. This is the first number ive ever ported so was unsure on how it works tbh.

A word of warning. Because of the bad weather all O2 customer service centres have been either closed or half empty. I was told this as their call centres are in Leeds and Glasgow and other such places. Yesterday they went home early today i was told they were CLOSED.
