I have a W800i currently on R1AA008 CID36 and would like to try to upgrade, debrand and unlock it to a new firmware which i found on the Wotan Server ito be R1BD002 CID36. If there is any other newer ones, please let me know.
I am complete newbie and have no idea when it comes to the techinical side of flashing, debranding etc firmware so obviously living in someone else's hands who has flashed, debranded and unlocked my previous Sony Ericsson phones for me without any problems so i trust him. But he seems to be having problem upgrading my W800i to the R1BD002 as he told me it wasn't being accepted or something in those lines? He then mentioned to me that he may try to converting the CID36 to CID53 but i have my doubts on this due to the phone/CID being 36 seems pretty old and i know newer ones are now CID53's. He also mentioned things like the red, brown firmware which i have no idea what that is about either!
But from what little knowledge i do have from reading around forums and if i am correct, trying to flash a phone with a uncompatable CID's brick it? So would it be wise to try to convert/patch etc the W800i from the stages of CID36 to 49, 50, 51, 52 then 53? If a problem does occur due to the uncompatability of the CID's, would he able to save the phone by re-flashing back to the original firmware or would the process brick it for good?
What would be the correct firmware CID and colour firmware would he need if he wanted to convert/patch the CID from 36 or just stick with CID36?
If you can explain it in a more simple terms how these firmware CID's and colours work as would be better!
Regards,

First of all you need 3 things: MAIN, FS and Custom(optional with xs++ v3.1).
Let me get you a XS++ v3.1 tutorial. It's easier with it.
Tutorial: XS++ General Usage (Flashing, Customizing and File System Operations)

@Tranced: Ok, still need to try to grasp that too! I've already texted the guy who not to try flashing my W800i to any of the CID49-53 as it will brick my phone which the last thing i want to happen!

I've forgotten a bit about CID36 these days. But I will research a little bit. Tell the guy to use CID36 MAIN.

I've tried updating it via SEUS but it says that there is no new software available for my phone and it has the lastest available software installed which can't be as the current firmware i have on the handset is quite old so now i kinda stuck what to do with my W800.

I had my W800i since 17/01/2006 so it is out of warranty and sending it to a repair centre would be the last option. I have never updated the handset via SEUS and had no issues with the software or hadware issues on it's current software R1AA008 which is branded to the Orange network since had it. So i guess due the age of the handet there is no longer any manual software support for this handset via SEUS? (i've also sent this a reply to Sony Ericsson Customer Services).
