> The end of an era? - buttons

I've just come to renew my mobile phone contract and couldnt beleive the selection of phones that were on offer.
The majority of them were touch screen and the ones that arent are all slide phones. Neither of which i like!
What is wrong with the plain old simple design such as the C902, its basic but it works, why change it?
I don't like and will never have a touch screen phone, even if it means staying with older phones but theres nothing new out, especially SE for me to upgrade to.
Is it the end of an era for buttons?

Because the majority of the public wants something new and fresh. The traditional block form of the phones excist since the first phone, dated more than 40 years ago. It's time something to change.
The people want something new, fresh and stylish, something that hasn't excisted before. Here comes the touchscreen, the new and modern UI with many interactive buttons, 3D shapes and so on... And the first, who satisfy people's wishes, gets all the points. The good old physical buttons get replaced by virtual ones.

I think buttons will come back fairly soon in lower and mid-range handsets. With the exception of a few genuine smartphones, most of these phones are trying to ape the iphone in look but don't match the iphone in ease of use or functionality, so next time around the customers for those handsets are going to be looking for something different - the fashion will change again.
Smartphones will carry on being dominated by touchscreens, but that's nothing new.

Buttons won't ever be phased out I don't think they will always be there for the few who still want it. I think manufacturers are aware of this. If you look enough you will see even samsung & LG the touch screen mad companies they are still produce phones with buttons.

btw not all network provider or shall i say only a few that only offer touch screen phones, down here we have a selection of touch screen and buttons phones on offer

I prefer a Touchscreen mobile with a keypad so I just hope keypads become extinct later on,
asi find it slower composing messages on a screen rather then a keypad

Re Samsung an LG: South Korean teenagers likes touchscreen phones..
The Japanese still prefer flip-top phones..
For me, i liked a touchscreen phone and a candybar phone.. Touchscreen because i like tapping..
Candybar because of it's affordability, and durability..
Killing buttons i think is not a good idea.. Why?! Buttons are longer-lasting than touchscreens..

Quite irritating I'd have thought! To be fair, while touchscreens are quite a natural fit for mobile phones, I do think it's quite possible to go to far and forget that all these devices - no matter how advanced - are still ultimately designed for us - big, hulking, squishy bipeds with (usually) ten fingers and ten toes.
Actual thought control might be interesting, and possibly the next big step, but even that won't suit everyone and won't necessarily be the way we want to use our phones..
