I've not got a P800 yet...
But I was wondering if anyone had been able to use the MP3 functionality of the P800 with a bluetooth headset?

It wouldnt work for the time being, at least not very good...the transfer rate is too low on Bluetooth.

I'm sure it's possible...but what for? It would sound worse than an old AM radio, mono...and would kill your headset in 3-4 hours of playback.

Well, BT has about 1Mbit/s at best. A decent mp3 is 128kbit/s. A dedicated headset and clever s/w should make it possible. Otherwise BT standard is lacking a true killer-application.

Well, but then the 128kbits would be transfered and the headset would need to decode the mp3 stream. If decoding is done in the phone (which is the case currently) the resulting 44kHz * 16 bit * 2 = 1408kbits would need to be transfered. Of course BT headsets are mono, so the half of this, 704kbits would probably be enough which is possible if the 1Mbit bandwidth is real.

Wireless headphones (via bluetooth or whatever) working with an MP3 player is a technology I would like to see, even if it meant a degradation in quality. Anyone else get flustrated at spending time untangling wires when you just want to listen to some music on the bus? Or feel an idiot when you have wires hanging off you when your walking down the street?
