Put your old sim card and transfer again all the contacts to phone memory. If you see the contacts with old sim, your phone is okay. Now go to options in contacts menu and scrolle down to more option. In more option, again scrolle down to advance option and in advance option, you have option of back up contacts on memory card. Create back up. Now take out your old sim and insert new one. Though changing sim would not affect the contacts on phone memory but if you see nothing in contacts with new sim, again go through all options mentioned above and select restore contacts in advance menu.

I think this should help you. If you still have problem, something is wrong with your phone. The last solution to it would be flashing. But before that do master reset all. Take back up of your contents before that.

Edit: oh, i forget one simple thing. Before you practice above said advice, just check in advance menu, what is default contacts ? If it is sim contacts, select phone contacts. And your problem is solved.
