Aiyo, is your p800 getting really spotty coverage? i have att and my gsm service seems to be really bad compared to my old service on att cuz i hardly ever have a full signal. Also, when i go under a roof or inside a room, i get worse coverage. is it the p800 or is it the GSM here?
THANX

Was your old ATT service 'TDMA' (D-AMPS)? If so, you should know that ATT's GSM network is not on par with their 'TDMA' network. A lot of this has to do with engineering. Reusing the same cell towers has been quite popular because it allows carriers to add GSM service relateively quickly, but the problem is that 1900MHz is WAAY more susceptible to attenuation than 800MHz and thus has to be engineered differently.

I think it was TDMA. yeah, that's what i thought. Do u think the gsm network will be complete soon? because ATT says it is 90 % complete righ tnow.

They're expanding... slowly, but they are doing it. As far as that 90% goes... i wouldn't believe what an ATT rep tells me

I aggree with devis. I had service on ATT's 'TDMA' prior to switching to GSM. I dropped GSM service with them in Sept/Oct cause the coverage was disappointing (i'm with T-Mob now) amoung other things. I don't believe they're at 90% because of the engineering problems associated with operating at a higher frequency. They may have GSM coverage on 90% of their old cell towers, but because we're dealing with such a higher frequency obstructions and even atmospheric loss have a greater impact. I think what we'll see is ATT continuing to add GSM coverage to their existing towers, and as they get more subscribers transitioned to GSM and reworking of their existing 800mhz band to support GSM, and possibly additional towers.
I think you can only expect things to get better with all of the carriers, but it will take time.
