Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
The X10 comes with 1024 MB (1 GB) of internal memory. Of this, 384 MB is set aside as RAM, and the rest is storage. If 465 MB is free on a new device, that means ~175 MB is being used up. To me, that sounds about right for the OS and pre-installed app to be using as storage.

the phone has 1 GB flash memory (also refred to as internal memory) for storing data (like the OS and apps) and 384 MB of RAM for program execution. The flash and the RAM are two separate memories and should not be mixed up. With other words flash memory = internal memory != RAM. Half of the internal memory is probably used by the OS itseself together with preinstalled apps, so around half is left for the user.

They should call it "ROM" so there's no misunderstanding
RAM for Random Access Memory and ROM is a storage

ROM implies "Read Only Memory". Since the internal memory can have apps installed on it, it most certainly is not "read only".
One is RAM, the other is flash storage. Its just that simple. Just like on your PC, you don't store apps in your RAM - because they would be gone when you turn your PC off. You store them on your hard drive.
