I am gona buy myself a new phone in about a month but have no clue what to get. I've been reading reviews and keep finding negatives about all the phones I'm considering. I'm currently on sim only and will consider a contract but ideally want to stay on sim only tbh. The phones I've been thinking about are: (Ones with a * will be on contract)

Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition
Samsung Jet
Samsung Monte
Samsung Wave*
Nokia 5800
Nokia 5530
Nokia X6*
Sony Ericsson Vivaz*
Sony Ericsson W995?

I currently have a W910 which is tbh, awful. This plus the fact Sony Ericsson phones don't really wow me anymore means that I'm looking elsewhere. However I am used to SE and can text on them without getting pissed off. My main concern with any new phone that isn't a SE is texting. I'm talking about the whole process here, not just typing out the text. Like how many steps it takes to send a text, what the predictive text is like, etc.

If anybody on here has any of the phones I've listed and can give me more info on them and what they are like to use day to day, or can suggest some other phones I would be very greatful.

My friend has the tocco ultra and when I was using it it sometimes wouldn't give me a capital letter after a full stop/question mark. Has anybody else had this problem?

Thanks

What's so awful bout W910 for you? Cause I'd normally suggest the W995 to you while it's simple, pretty advanced and good build, but if you don't like the interface or something the W995 sucks too, off course. Wouldn't recommend you a touchscreenphone for texting anyway, so that leaves you with the W995 and Tocco Ultra really. If you want simplicity go for W995, if you want fancy menu's and such, but bit worse usability, go for Tocco Ultra.

The phone is simply a very poor quality product. I don't think they do the W995 at CPW anymore so it's off the cards anyway. Seen some bad reviews on the tocco ultra. Infact, I've seen bad reviews on all the phones I'm considering

I would suggest the Nokia X6 16GB or the Nokia E72 if you dont like touchscreen. The 5800xm is my 1st touchscreen phone, yet i havent had any problems texting with it. I do a lot of texting,IM, and forum posting and havent had any issues with texting on a touchscreen only phone,i actualy find it better as its less harsh on your thumbs, very smooth and quiet, no more 'thump thump' or 'click click' sounds when typing lol.
As for the 5800xm itself, ive had a great time with it, its a great device especialy for the price: good batt life, realy nice and large display, excellent music quality in both loudspeakers and headphones, TV-Out functionality, Ovi Store which has a good selection of apps, games, themes etc... Nokia Messaging with HTML and Push Email support, Free voice guided navigation etc... The reason i suggest X6 is that it has all that the 5800xm has PLUS a more sensetive Capacitive touchscreen, a much better 5MP camera which takes excellent quality pics, 16GB built-in,and free music with Come With Music voucher pin which you can to purchase music at Ovi Music.
I generaly recommend smartphones, as over time even if you get bored of them theres plenty apps and mods you can add to smartphones.
I would also suggest looking at Htc Hero, Htc Tattoo and SE X10Mini Pro.

well there is a phone wich is much better than all the phones you suggested and it's as expensive as a sony ericsson w995(at least in my country). This is the samsung i5700 galaxy spica ....this phone rocks 800mhz ,android 2.1 eclair,3,5 mm jack, capacitive screen ,divx xvid playback buy this phone you will not regret it...plus the camera 3,2 mp is on of the best at this resolution(better in image quality than the nokia 5800)......in my opinion(and it's not just my opinion) this is the best phone at 200euro(no contract) that you can buy right now

The galaxy will be too expensive and I haven't seen it here in the UK.

Definately interested in the Nokia, not sure about the contract though. So you'd definately recommend the 5800?

Im recommending the X6, i just used my experience with my 5800 as reference as they are almost basicaly the same phone. If you like the 5800 then go for it, but you'd be better off with a X6 16GB as its a newer device.
I doubt that Samsung will be expensive, it was just released here in SA, if i remember correctly at around the same price as 5800. Only prob is see though is weak batt life which seems to plague most Androids.

From what I experienced I don't like Android not very user friendly at all. I actually prefer Symbian
