Day 3 with my Sony Ericsson c902.

Time flies when you're having fun, or, when you are learning something new. That's me and my new c902.

I am now at day 3 of the camera learning curve.

Question of the day: What are the "Stabilizer" and "Vibration" modes.

I have a Sony DSC-H5, and the Sony DSC-F707, so I understand the stabilization concept, but, how does it compare to the c902's "Stabilizer" option, and what the heck is "Vibrations" mode, anyway?

I have so many questions, and so little smarts.

Stabilizer mode is made to counteract shaky hands when taking photos to avoid blurry pics, useful on proper cameras, but from my experience not on camera-phones. Most people recommend that you turn off stabilizer modes, I'm not sure whether having it on affects the quality of the photos, some say yes, some say no, I would turn it off and instead keep yours hands as steady as you can (or even better rest the phone on a stable surface)
I have no idea what "Vibration" mode is But plankgatan knows everything about the C902 camera so he will know.

Vibration mode is the haptic feedback (little vibration) you get when you touch blue touch controls

BTW, Nice to see a new C902 user, I encourage you to experience the camera of it, at first it was junk to me, but now I really love the camera, Better than the day 1 with new firmware updates and my improved skills

mriley, mrjulius and gayannr,

Hey, thanks for your responses, another lesson learned, about "Vibration" and "Stabilizer", as it pertains to the Sony Ericsson c902.

The cell phone dealer here in the wilds of Nebraska, U.S.A. did not have the c905, so my choice was limited. Besides, the pixel count is really immaterial when it comes to digital photography, its the sensor size that counts. So, the 8 MP of c905 did not interest me.

gayannr, you mentioned "firmware updates", funnily enough, that was going to be my next question on this forum. I've gone through every posting in the "Post Pictures taken With c902", and the reoccurring theme seemed to be firmware updates. Very interesting.

I checked on my phone/camera (>Settings >General >Update Service >Software Version), and I discovered that my "software" version is: 1223-4390 R3EA A038 090302

btw, the picture EXIF on one of my utilities shows it as: R3EA038 prg12234390 Generic_AS 00.00

So, now what? How do I get the newest firmware/software/whatever? What are the steps involved? If anyone should reply, "Download the newest software and install it on your phone. . ." it won't help this old geezer. I need a step by step How-To instruction. The manual is really vague in this area. For most, the manual is great, for me, it is like learning Partial Differential Equations of Mathematical Physics and Integral Equations. Heck, I nearly flunked Arithmetic. lol)

Again, thanks folks for you willingness to step up and help me through this.

The phone comes with a software disc which in turn contains utilities to connect to the internet or send text messages via the computer and a lot more other things.

What you do is insert the disc into your computer and install the drivers and the software update service which is on the disc itself. After installation you can connect to the internet, go to the Sony Ericsson software update and update your phone's software.
