It's an ex vodafone HTC and is unlocked and on T Mobile. Basically the problem is that it's not accepting phone calls or accepting incoming calls, also cannot text or get texts. But the internet works. It's not the sim card as the sim works on other phones. I have also tried other sims in the HTC with no joy.

I phoned T Mobile and they sent out new settings but that never worked. Tried switching HSDPA to GSM and 3G, but still nothing.

I read on the vodafone site that there are people with similar problems. There were a bunch of people with similar problems, about 10. One of them said something about updating the firmware but can't find the update.

Sorry matey, i dont have much idea, though i would start off with a hard reset, then check it with a Vodafone sim, as its 2nd hand the unlock may not have been pure, ie full. Buyer beware as they say!

Well, at least this is an indication of that it's not only that produces new phone models that are not flawless. One have to realize that complex machines like modern mobile phones really are complex an often suffer from problems, mostly software, especially when a new model is coming out of the pipe. The only difference is how the manufacturer is handling the problems. It should be interesting to see whether HTC is better than SonyEricsson in this case...

Does the phone have any sort of Voda branding? What's the software version?

You obviously talk crap This has nothing to do with HTC or DESIRE. Read the original post again ! The device is locked to one network and the customer 'unlocked' it to use it on a competing network. Obviously he was only partially successfull in his quest. What I am concerned, this activity (unlocking) borders to fraud to begin with. Usually the network subsidise the cell and hence is locked. SE's poor and cheap manufacturing goes a lot deeper than that . . . Reality check . . .

I have checked it with a vodafone sim and it still doesn't work. It was working for about a month when first bought. It was bought second hand from ebay. Maybe the original owner noticed that it locks and then unlocks (hopefully) and that's why he has sold it. I mean why else would someone sell a brilliant phone like that, just after they bought it? It's probably still in warranty considering the phone only came out a couple of months ago?

That's exactly what I though. I'm on here on behalf of my girlfriend and I warned her about buying these "smart" phones. When I first met her she had an iphone, Blackberry Storm and that 12mp SE! She wasn't happy with the iphone because she couldn't get it fully and properly unlocked, she wasn't happy with the SE (obviously) and she didn't like the Blackberry for some reason. Now the HTC! And that has something wrong with it! I have a SE C510 and nothing ever goes wrong with it. Before that I had a W890i which was a bit dodgy as it turned itself off every now and agin, but I could handle that as it was a neat little thing. And before that I had a W880i, K750i, Razr. Respectively. All brilliand little phones that I could still be happy with to this day.

I doubt unlocking a phone is fraud. You can phone up your operator service provider and sometimes they will unlock it for you, if they feel like it.
