Hi everyone,

I know how to use Google and the search functions, but want to hear opinions of Esato members who made the change.

So the question is How easy is Transition from Windows Laptop to a Mac kind of Laptop?

second question is am I going to spend a fortune on new software?

third one I need to use Japanese, so easy to set up?

If you have any other pointers, issues etc, please tell me!

Off to search after lunch!

Hey ofiach
i have bought 3 macbooks since december and i am damn pleased. More pleased than using windows
I actually installed windows 7 on my polycarbonate 2009 macbook but deleted in after a day
First question: Transition? You mean multimedia transfer or getting used to the new software?
If you mean multimedia transfer, there's nothing easier than that
If you mean getting used to the new operating system, well it a piece of cake really.
Everything is so much more simple and user-friendly! There are a lot of Mac Tutorials on the apple website which will make everything very very easy!
Second question: Besides buying iWork i dunno what else you're gonna need. Stuff i bought went up to 20 dollars
iWork is much better than Office but if you wanna buy Microsoft Office for mac you can buy it though i dunno the price
Third question: yes, you can use Japanese language. When you first boot your Mac, there is a wonderful start up video followed by the most simple start up setup ever! You can choose your language
Pointers, hmm... I could point you to a couple of useful websites
Issues... NONE no viruses even if gizmodo talks sh*t about apple... ( gizmodo hates apple since the iphone incident )
I have never had to restart my Mac unless it was for a software, after installation Never had a system crash.
My safari chashed ONCE only because i tried to see the maximum tabs i can open went up to 117
If you have any questions, fire away!

Three? Did you want your own personal network?

I actually installed windows 7 on my polycarbonate 2009 macbook but deleted in after a day

so Windoze wil run on it in a partition?

Yes, it is second. Getting use to new OS.

Everything is so much more simple and user-friendly! There are a lot of Mac Tutorials on the apple website which will make everything very very easy!

I'll explore from tomorrow! Birthday today so.... won't remember much!

Second question: Besides buying iWork i dunno what else you're gonna need. Stuff i bought went up to 20 dollars
iWork is much better than Office but if you wanna buy Microsoft Office for mac you can buy it though i dunno the price

I sYnch Nexus One for file transfers,,,, and also GarmIn GPS for updates,,,, and use a freebie Japanese word processor for its dictionary capabilities. Also have flv video files that play easily on Windows XP. would need to use these easily..

Third question: yes, you can use Japanese language. When you first boot your Mac, there is a wonderful start up video followed by the most simple start up setup ever! You can choose your language

Sounds good! Multiple languages are important for me....

Not sure what the iPhone incident was!! I will do lots of reading...

I want a laptop not a desktop, so my search should begin there... Price might be an issue....!

Thanks, any other opinions and advice, please add for me!

Yeah, have three. Wanted to see the alluminium and the polycarbonate( high quality plastic )

yeah, windows will run on a partition using BootCamp which is unbuilt in the OS X or you can use Parallel Desktops or VMware Fusion to run windows on a virtual machine

As i said, getting used to the new OS is too easy! The difference is soooo big between OS X and Windows but it's definitely better. I tried the Mac out and if it didn't fulfill my demands and needs i'd ditched it
And i am a specific person OS X is much friendlier than Windows even Windows 7 it's true and i am not just a usual apple fanboy... Everything is so simple! The thing is that Apple makes the hardware AND software so they are made to work fluidly with each other unlike Microsoft who makes the software and Asus makes the motherboard, intel the CPUs etc etc...

I dunno much about syncing the Nexus One, or garmin... The dictionary on the Mac is awesome... Awesome says it all.
I think Quick Time player doesn't have flv support but i installed Perian for more codecs and it's the best.

p.s.
the incident with the spy pics of the iPhone 4 gizmodo posted before it's unveiling

Don't buy Office for Mac. Get iWork it's completely compatible and MUCH better. No further software needed.

With regards to the Nexus One, I use doubleTwist to sync music across. It's free and gets the job done reasonably well.
Also, crashes - you'll find that the longer you go without a clean install of OS X, the more problematic things get. I get Safari crashes due to the Flash player plugin at least once a week, but my computer hasn't had a fresh install of OS X since September! Cleaning it up every six months or so will see that it runs smoothly and problem free.

To me Safari only crashed on one online game site. Had 1 time a frozen Mac, due to office!! And I NEVER reinstalled OS X. I still run Leopard.

I don't think it's necessary to do all those fresh installs This isn't windows...
I had to reinstall OS X once because of me. I wanted to change the bloody theme, status bar, finder color etc etc...
So i messed up, popped the snow leopard CD in and it fixed everything almost on it's own.
I use Cocktail and CleanMyMac to maintain my Mac, use it once a month or so. Never had a system crash... and the only time my safari crashed was when i tried opening to maximum tabs... Opened up some Naruto Shippuuden websites...
I forgot about DoubleTwist... I installed it out of curiosity and because i like the icon on the software

As for Office, once you try out iWork, you will forget about Office...
