Is the media player on Nokia handsets the one that comes with the Symbian firmware by default? If so, is it possible to restore it? Using my thumb to scroll through three hundred artists isn't really my idea of a good time.

definately a weakness on Satio also, plus there is no easy way to filter ringtones so if you are on random play it's very annoying, even my P1i you could add a file size filter in media player.

I have SPB Mobile Shell installed that can launch the symbian Music Player, but it's not functional - no buttons are available.

That SPB Mobile Shell looks amazing! It's a shame about the media player though. But if it's still there, perhaps there's still a way to get it fully functional.

The Media player will be fully functional when SPB release their next version of mobile Shell.
its not fully functional as that version of SPB mobile shell is only a beta version
---> I downloaded the latest official build(349) and your right, the media player isnt fully functional yet, you can play and FF REW tracks, but the Track ID doesn't seem to be displayed.

I agree. Some other nice features for the built in media player would be that songs start in media player if you launch them from file manager, add whole folders to a playlist (could be done in C905 media player), control which folders are scanned for your music library and photo gallery (to exclude ringtone folder for example, or images you don't want visible in the gallery).
To get around these issues I use Folderplay, Resco Image Viewer and the touch screen version of KDPlayer.
