I got a Hazel . Brilliant phone with a lot of features for a phone of its price. But, I've been getting rather poor reception in both GSM and 3G, I know it's not my network as the other phones in my house that are using the network have at least 5 bears of reception.

Is it software or the phone (faulty etc.), I've read an older thread in this forum that an update was released to address this issue. I know they're trying to minimise the packaging but at least include a USB cord in the package.

My Elm also seems to have slightly lower reception than most other phones. Maybe it has something to do with it being greenheart?

LOL, I thought of that too.

I got 2-4 bars of HSDPA on average, rarely 5, while my Dad's iPhone 3G on the same network gets constant 5 bars. The phone can get higher bars when I lay the phone flat on a flat surface.

An update would fix this problem. Are you running what firmware version?

hello, also a Hazel user here, try to update your firmware, I don't exactly know if it will fix the problem, I updated mine to R7BA081, anyway mine has a constant 3 to 4 bars signal and I haven't experienced any problems so far sending messages or calls. I think it's a powersave feature of the phone.

I think the greenheart project seems to have an effect on it, I don't exactly remember where I read it, think its on the manual where it said that the phone itself also conserves energy when it is not in use and near a network it limits its range just to about enough for you to recieve calls and text.

Here's one from the user help on the phone:

Contents > Getting Started > Maximizing Battery Performance

"If you are in an area with no coverage, your phone repeatedly scans for available networks. This consumes power. If you cannot move to an area with better coverage, turn off your phone temporarily."

When I get a USB cable, I'll try to use the updater. Thanks for the help, I really appreciated it.

So I installed the update, I got more or less the same coverage...

Should I take it back?
