Ok, I've searched before posting this thread, but all the existing threads about this subject seems to be 2 years old or more.

Yesterday I was making a lot of video recordings with my SE Aino, and Nokia N82. I used my SE Aino first, because I prefer SE, but when it began to have trouble I switched to the Nokia N82.
Looking at the videos today it's CLEAR to see when I switched to the Nokia, as the quality is so much better.

Since video-recording is very important to me, I want a new phone now. (Sadly I also have a ton of other requirements, but I want to disregard those for now).

See, a lot of newer phones are listed as HD-recording capabilities. That doesn't mean that much to me, since SE Aino and Nokia N82 are both listed as VGA-recording capabilities, but the N82 is clearly better than the Aino, especially in dark surroundings.

So, I'm interested in hearing some experiences from you out there. You'll need to have personal experience with multiple models. It's not enough to say: "I love MY phone HD-recording".

I hear bad things about Vivaz. Is it true? Is it bad?
What about X10 Mini Pro. Has anyone gotten the upgrade yet, and can tell me something about its new HD video recording quality?
I've heard that the Samsung Galaxy S is the absolute best phone for video recording at the moment. Do you agree?

Thanks for your time.

SE has not released an upgrade for their Android devices. So they're still in the 1.6 Android version. The Samsung Galaxy S has no led.

When you said Vivaz, you included the Pro?

If you don't need SE, I'd say go for the Wave. Very good video capabilities imo (though it has some sync and mail troubles). Else the Galaxy S might be nice, but I don't know it. I was pretty impressed by the Mini's video capabilities too, but they're for sure not as good as those from the Wave. Wave beats Vivaz (pro) hands down btw. See comparision here: http://www.allaboutphones.nl/[....]7/Sony-Ericsson-Vivaz-Pro.html the upper is the wave.

I've just visited 3 shops in town to check out stand-alone HD video-recorders. A Sony Bloggie, a Samsung something and a JVC something. I got some recording-samples with me home from the Sony and Samsung, and must admit they really don't look better than the Vivaz examples I've seen online.

When I record with my SE Aino in darker surroundings, the quality is really poor. Can someone tell me if that's the same with the Vivaz?
Hasn't new firmware for the Vivaz come out not long ago? Did it improve video-recording?

Well, I have tried 3 pocket HD-recorders now. Full-HD recorders actually. And while the picture quality was indeed nice, the sound-quality was crap.
So my current two choices are:
1) Try the Vivaz Pro, or
2) Buy a Canon Ixus 300 HS

Can't make up my mind at all.

Why not wait for the Nokia N8: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n8-3252.php it has HD720@25FPS with dual mics, as well as HDMI with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, i have no experience with one but it seems this is the phone that will suit your needs perfectly overall as it will record in HD with stereo sound and will allow you to plug it in via HDMI to a HD ready tv/monitor and view your vids in HD, it also has USB-OTG so you can plug it directly to an external HDD and transfer/play media from it, hope that helps.

Nokia N8 does indeed look like a great camera phone.

However, I really need hardware keys for texting.
In other words, there are currently really only these devices that might satisfy me.

A good soundplayer is also preferred, and in my experience the Nokia devices doesn't play back music that well. At least my N82 doesn't.
This is why I look mostly towards Vivaz Pro or X10 Pro (if/when it gets updated to Android 2.1 so it can record HD).

The big X10 is the only one getting the HD720p video, the X10mini Pro's hardware doesnt support higher than VGA as far as i know.
