Hello all!
Questions for all you P800 owners. I've been a longtime PocketPC & Nokia (*dodge*) user, and have been looking for a good handphone w/ GOOD organiser/pim capabilities (and NOT the otherway round), and the P800 looks like a great candidate. However, I am very concerned about its organiser capability. Would appreciate P800 owners in replying the following questions:
1) Is there a maximum # of contacts in the P800? I have > 1,500 very detailed contact lists (w/ attached comments each), and would be most upset if, after buying, discover that there is some maximum limit (besides space), like 500 or 1,000. Louis' excellent ClubSonyEriccson.com site says 1,000, but he told me in an email that he is unsure, and that it might be unlimited. The 12Mb should be enough, but just in case, can you store the contacts file on the Memory Stick Duo (or even stradle across?). What is the max # of contacts you folks have? What limits the # of contacts?
2) How well does the P800 calendar handle complex appts? I would be synching w/ Lotus Notes 6. E.g. A chain of repeating appointments yet with some appts in that chain w/ different details/time/venue? I don't mind if P800 converts to individual mtgs, but I hope it doesn't screw-up. Lotsa bad experiences there.
3) I like the PocketPC because of its detailed database entries. I tried the earlier Palm OSes, but still went back to PocketPC. Things like email2, email3, anniversary, spouse, children, are all used by me when I have the data. Meetings that are "tentative/penciled" or marked "private", and both contact & appts having linked notes. Are all these available on the P800? Is there a site that I can check this out in detail?
And lastly, for the experienced/heavy-user ex-PocketPC ppl who have "migrated" to the P800 ... ikes, dislikes? Any heavy-organiser users on the P800 with comments as well?

I think the address book is limited to the amount of space available on the HDD..
it doesnt say n e where in the help file of the phone that there is a limit...
I currently hv around 150 contacts.. not much detail either.. usually, first name/ last name, home number, cellphone and attached picture... an that's it..
I know the details well enough that I dont use the features...
as for sync.. I dont care much for it, I dont store these things on my computer or n e where else...
all in all, I dont know how I lived without this phone..
I recommend it to n e one who can afford it

Regarding the 1000 contact limit, IF EVER there is one, it will be the lmitation of Symbian, rather than the P800. AFAIK, the Ericsson, R380, and Nokia 9210 & Series 60 based phones seem to have a 1000 contact limit... I don't know if this applies to the new OS7 UIQ of the P800. I hope it doesn't. So far, 300++ contacts w/ photos uses up less than 2MB... so 12MB is more than enough if the OS doesn't impose a limit.
Calendar entries work fine. Problems MAY occur IF you choose to merge entries, rather than have the PC or phone over-ride one another. Over-riding entries doesn't delete an entry if it doesn't overlap. Overlaps will ask you to choose between the phone or PC entry. No problems with appointments & syncing w/ Outlook.

I sync with Lotus Notes 5 with just a couple of small problems:
1) The sync mechanism doesn't seem to cope with a second mobile number on a contact too well (ie. work and home) as a standard Notes address book doesn't have an entry for the 2nd mobile number and it can be a bit unpreditable which mobile number gets stored in Notes.
2) Aniversaries in the P800 calendar get turned into day long events in Notes (this is not such a big problem).
All in all I can live with this but it would be nice if it was fixed.

I have more than 700 names and full spec, and it works just great it takes only 394kb on my P800
It is just a great phone, i used a T68i and still have a Clie NR7V, but give it to me in one perfect phone/palm and that is what i have now with the P800

Actually, after much thinking, the features, such as camera, mms, games, video playback, etc, are all nice and cool features, but frankly not a necessity - for me at least. I wouldn't mind foregoing that for a (a) lighter and (b) cheaper unit. What IS important to me, would be the (a) bluetooth, (b) triband and of course, a (c) powerful organiser/pim capabiltities. Basic features like good UI would be a given.
Do you folks have any recommendations what other SE phone would be suitable?
P.S. For risk of being stoned here (:-), I just checked out the N-gage site, and the preliminary info looks suitable to my needs. Yes, its positioned as a game machine (which for my personal tastes, would be more "useful" than a camera, since I already have a number of digicams and videocams & I don't have a GameBoy), but it has bluetooth, triband and what seems like a decent organiser, or should be at least comparable(?) to the P800. Don't have the cam, is lighter, and maybe(?guessing?) cheaper?

If it doesn't sync with 6.0 and just 4 and 5 I think this will be solved in later firmwares...
I don't think there is a limit of 1000 contacts...it doesn't say so in the manual. Why should there be a limit? I can't se a reason for this...
Send an e-mail to symbian and ask them!
I hope you get this phone. It's really great. Why don't you go to your local seller and try it? =)

the only feature I miss in the PIM is that one cannot link contacts to a calendar event... apart from that, its all good!

N-Game will probably be cheaper... but it is coming out in Q4...that's a lifetime away. It is a lot bigger than the P800, though it might be light. PIM will not be as good as the P800... I doubt it will be useful at all. It's a game machine w/ a phone, and nothing more. Don't expect much from Nokia. If I were you, why not just get the GSM/GPRS backpack for the iPaq? You'll have all the functions and memory of the iPaq, plus tri-band, Bluetooth, and Class 10 GPRS.

I've not heard of any limit, but email SonyEricsson support, they should know, and they are quite fast at answering questions.
If you want bluetooth, you should stay away from Nokia, Nokia seems to have real problems with their bluetooth implementations.
