Hmmm... with the introduction of the new iPod Touch..
Could this be FaceTime for Android?
Can anyone who gets the new iPod Touch confirm if it works?

Video calling over WiFi? Even Video calling over 3G didn't catch on and the picture quality was just as blurry. I can't see there being much interest.

If this is so, then the compression and decompression is handled by the iPod Touch then sent over Wifi Hotspot enabled Android device.
The problem with video calling in 3G, although fun, was I could only vid call my friends who knew how to use it. I feel bad that it is no longer a feature in a lot of phones today... hopefully this will change if FaceTime revives interest in video calling.
Portable video calling over wifi has the big advantage of clarity due to increased bandwidth. At the time 3G video calls were introduced, HSPA was no where in sight. We had bandwidth speeds of about 100-300kbps. Even then, I could call my friends in Paris from the Philippines. With current HSPA speeds that approach 1mbps, and off-loaded CPU processing, video calling SHOULD be a lot easier/clearer than ever before.
Kinda like how VoIP is now extremely mature... the magicJack system can function in as low as 80kbps bandwidth. And is as clear as a hardline.
I'm eager to try it! Will post findings as soon as I can!

I want FaceTime over Android and I want it now! The new iPod Touch is one of those must -have devices and Apple's other must-have device (the iPad) must be next in line to get the FaceTime treatment too. iFail 4 sales might get propped up by FaceTime especially if FaceTime makes it to iPad and Mac before it reaches Android and Windows. I wonder whether Google are going to put FaceTime into Chrome OS? Hmmm...

I can fully confirm that FaceTime on both the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch work using tethering on Android.

Anyway, FaceTime will be released over 3G as well. Several people who have JB'd their phone have been using FT over 3G with success.

Even without 3G support for facetime, using facetime on touch over anykind of wifi connection (using an android phone or for that matter joikuspot on s60 or wm) should work. I doubt facetime would analyse the type of internet present on the wifi access point that the touch/iphone is connected to.
It's good news that the facetime api is open, however we still don't have skype video on android let alone s60. How long will it take before we get facetime clients for other platforms?

As there is no front camera on Xperia X10, I don't see any reason to have it! though for other devices it can be useful.
