I'm about to buy an Android phone, mid size, so the X8 comes into picture. Since the UI is the same as the X10mini, some of you might know the answer to these (did not find any answers in the forum yet, sorry if I missed some threads):
* How many widgets can you install on the rotating front screen?
* The HTC's have an app or widget that lets you toggle bluetooth or wifi on/off on (one of the seven) home screen(s). How easy can you toggle bt/wifi on the X10mini = X8?
* The problem with a lot of Androids is the speed. Can we expect the X8 to be as fast as the X10? Speed seems to be one of the X10mini's main advantages?
* How would you trade off a LG or HTC midsize to the X8?
* Would you expect a lot of apps not to work on the x8? How does it feel on the X10mini, the availabilty of apps?
TIA!

Here are the answers you're looking for, I think:
1- It depends on the screen size. As the Xperia X10 has a 3 inches screen in can support 4 4x1 widgets. There are also widgets that are 1x1. So you have an idea now.
2- There are widgets for this too.
3- It has a 600mhz processor. Just 72mhz more than my G1. I think it'll do a bit better. But not as much as I'd like to.
4- ...
5- Sometimes is a bit frustrating not being able to install some apps because it's running 1.6. But in most of the cases the majority of apps run in the 1.6 too. I'd say that more of the 60% of the apps do.

1: On the X10 mini only 1 widget per home screen is possible. But you can install ADW Launcher, there 3x4 widgets are possible. So on the X8 4x4 could work
2: yes, there is a widget out of the box for that - and others in the market
3: The mini is very fast - I don't know about the X8. With the upcoming Android 2.1 update it should get faster.
4: -
5: for the mini quite some apps are not available in the market. But when you install the apk file manually they work. For the X8 much more apps will be available as it's screen resolution is higher. And with the 2.1 update it will get even better.

1) Officially only 1 widget on the X10 Mini/Pro, this can be a single 4x4 widget (like Timescape), but only 1 is allowed per screen. ADW enables the full 4x4 to fit.
2) Real easy, one single on-screen panel for, one click off-on for Wifi, Bluetooth, 3-step brightness, Sync, and GPS. Separate widget for enable/disable gprs/3G data.
3) Speed out of the box is great... when you start monkeying around...rooting...and installing a LOT of background apps (like me)... it can start to crawl... but apps you install are entirely up to you. (There's a reason
restricts the market as well... just like Apple)
4) ? How would I swap? Or would I swap?
5) Some apps don't work on the X10 Mini... some apps work but the screen cropping renders them useless... it's mostly a trial and error thing.
I have some app and performance reviews on my X10 Mini Pro on my
blog. hope it helps
**Just a note... when trying beta apps that don't seem to work on our Androids, don't rate the app 1 star... just email the developer directly before leaving a rating or comment... they should be able to use our direct input before we bash their app in development. Now, if it's a paid app... that's another story...

Thank you all for the answers and the links.
Apparently there is a lot of tweaking that can be done and some of the 'features' on other android phones are in fact just apps or widgets.
Nice to see that the x10mini (and Is uppose also the X8) can be used as portable wifi hotspot.
Now I have to wait till the X8 becomes available...
