hello, i'm looking to buy an android phone and the x10 stands out because of its 8megapixel camera. i am wondering though how the interface of the x10 looks so different then say the htc. like the x10 mini for example has those 4 corner widgets to tap, but how come other android phones don't have this when they run on the same operating system?
also the blue background looks really nice, but can this be changed and again the htc doesn't have such an aesthetically pleasing background but why not? it's the same os after all.
thanks for reading and can you answer my questions
cheers

Android is the base OS... the screens you see are apps... usually called Launchers or Home Screen apps.
Each manufacturer makes their own Home Screen... some 3rd party Launchers emulate manufacturer's Home Screens. Others allow full customization.
The X10 Mini and Mini Pro probably have the most unique looking Android screen due to their small form factor. But you can install an app and use it instead of the default one.

Android is merely the operating system, which is basically the brain or thinking part of the phone. Different manufacturers install their own user interface on top of the OS, which basically are the face of the phone - how it looks.
HTC, SE, Samsung - they all have their own user interfaces that look different but the core functions of Android are still there. Personally, i prefer the basic look of HTC or Samsung's Touchwhiz interface over the SE user interface. Id get pretty sick of blue quickly !

etaab... I know right???? So strange that the blue background can't be changed..yet...
I just installed ADW over it. I do miss the 4 corner icons though.

You cant change the Blue or the Black in the others, but as Jplacson said, you can install 3rd party launchers. Im currently using ADW Launcher, with Droid X icons, as Moto's UI is my favourite, that mixed with SE's design looks great IMO.
With my set up, the only time you see the Blue is when using core apps e.g. Settings, Mediascape, Messaging and Email, the blue does get a bit much though.
