Finally got my Pc from argos with my vouchers. Got the Medion one in the end (thanks Lukechris). The Pc says it has 4Gb of Ram, but only 2.99 is usable. Can anyone shed any light on this.

unfortunately, 32bit systems can address only about 3.5gb of memory. You need to be running a 64gb o/s to get the benefit of more memory. possibly the other 1/2 gb is being used by shared graphics

It always says that on all pc's anyway. I have 5 gig of ram but it shows 4.75 usable. Shame you only have 32 bit system though

Say it on all PCs (X RAM (Y usable)). To calculate how much RAM your computer will have is pretty simple.
If RAM >= 4GB then 4GB minus any device with any kind of RAM memory (GPU, Sound card etc) = Usable RAM

i have 4gb and all 4 is useable 64bit os, seems a bit dumb to manufacture a pc with 4gb of ram and then put a 32bit os on it, also sometimes intergrated graphics chips use 256mb of the main ram since they don't have there own ram like a card does.

Thanks guys.
It does seem strange that you put 4Gb of Ram, but then a 32 bit OS. I do have a windows 7 O/S which is 64bit, but would I have to do a full reinstall with the new disc, or would it just do like a repair, and just take the parts it needs.

You need to fully reinstall. Upgrade isn't possible from 32bit to 64bit.
