Hi Guys,
Can anybody enlighten me how to set the mini pro to notify you if you receive email?
I have the setting on, the sound to max, but yet NOTHING happens when I get new email, this is super annoying. I also have the gmail app and that ALSO does not notify with sound regardless of me having it switched to VIBRATE AND SOUND
Any advice appreciated, seriously thinking of throwing in the towel on this one... will give it chance until the supposed 2.1 update but thats it.

Hey fyford, in Android, the main sound setting just controls the volume of the alerts.
Each app has it's own control for setting the notification... when in each app, go to the menu > settings then look for the notification menu then set accordingly.
This is both good and bad because if you have both the Gmail AND built in Email client notifications set to ON... you will get double alerts.
Same goes for SMS, if you're not using the default client, you have to disable the notifications otherwise you'll get 2 alerts.
It seems annoying in the beginning, but you also find that customization is better.
For example, you prefer the icon of the Gmail client, but the pop-up of K-9 Email... you can enable the task bar icon of one, and the pop-up of another.
Which email client are you using? Gmail or the built in Email?

Hi, thanks Random Carpet,
I have indeed all those settings.
Jplacson, I have enabled both the mail applications by now and all notifications I can find everywhere set to loud sounds - starting to think I have a dud phone.... I have also noticed my alarm only sounded once this week even it is set to sound every day.... not too pleased with Android.
Does anybody know if the alarm will sound with the phone switched off like previous SE phones?
Thanks for the replies guys!

fyford, you may have accidentally reduced the volume. Notification volume and ringer volume are separate by default. In the Settings > Sounds check the box that says Use Ring Volume for Notifications so that the volume switch on the side controls both the ringer and notification volume.
Oh, and regarding the alarm, no it won't go off if the phone is off (at least mine didn't... hahahaha) ... the best thing you can do is set the phone to Airplane mode.
Just a note... leaving the phone in standby with the screen off for 8 hours consumes LESS power than shutting it off, then turning it back on after 8-10 hours. Power-up sequence eats up approx 10-12 hours worth of standby time.

Thanks JP!
I have a couple more questions, where can I turn off the USB notification? Every time I plug in the USB cable the damn phone starts to play a tune!
Also I found that I constantly lose my widgets, think it happens when I swap batteries (these don't last long at all!) Will try your tip on leaving it in standby.
Cheers

Hey fyford, anytime. Regarding the USB notification... is this when you plug it into your laptop? Or just charging? I can't seem to find any USB notification control.
One habit I had to unlearn was the concept of 'syncing' or plugging in my phone to my laptop to retrieve media.
Being one of the first true cloud devices... an Android phone does everything wirelessly... even syncs w/ iTunes wirelessly
For power, I used to have that issue... my phone would only last like 4-6 hours...
Then I found a couple of apps that really helped w/o having to disable any of the phone's functions.
My X10 Mini Pro battery saga
With a couple of free apps, I now have 2 regular work days, or one really heavy work day. My phone now always makes it through the day til I get home.
But just as a precaution, I did invest in a car charger, rather than a 2nd battery. It was cheaper and is way more practical since swapping batteries is a pain with the Mini Pro.

Thanks JP thats a great help! I managed to find the notification on plugging the damn thing into a pc, so I just gave it a soft, short one - all sorted now.
Slowly starting to warm to the phone a little.... if only we can have the Android update
