> Can't Use My T68i in USA

I spent a lot of money on my T68i, along with all of the many, many accessories. I thought I had done all the research, but when it came right down to actually activating this phone... I found that NO CARRIER in the U.S. actually has very much GSM coverage. AT&T Wireless has pathetic coverage. I know other countries have GSM/GPRS and are doing well with it, but it's still a new technology over here in the USA. I'm very disappointed and hope that their coverage will get better very soon. I don't want to sell all of this, now that I know how to use it all.
So, for the meantime, I had to get a Sanyo 4900 from SprintPCS. I do have to say, SprintPCS's rate plans rock. I can't use my T68i with them, though. *sigh*

I've had GSM since the 90's. If you are in San Francosco, why dont you sign up with T-Mobile or Cingular instead? They have better GSM coverage than AT&T in that region. Correct me if im wrong, but AT&T has recently entered the GSM arena so they are currently in their infant stages of deployment. if your phone is locked to AT&T, I would strongly suggest for you to unlock it and switch crriers.

T-Mobile rate plans are the best! Go with them! They have good coverage and if not you can always roam for free on Cingular.

Now I use a T68i with AT&T and pay a promotional rate of $40/month for 1000 anytime minutes plus $13 for 4 MB of data (plan good for 1 year). Total=$53/month +tax. AT&T service is not great, but acceptable. I am with them primarily because they were one of the first companies to offer the T68 and the T68i. My user name should reveal my passion for this device.
Before I joined AT&T, I had a Samsung A-500 with Sprint PCS Vison. The Sprint plan cost about $45/month for 500 anytime minutes for the first 3 months. After the first three months, the plan would revert to the regular rate of $55/month. Adding another $15 for the data plan (called Vision) brought the monthly total to an average of $65/month +tax.
Initially, I was willing to pay more for the Sprint plan because I wanted the A-500. But after using the phone/plan for 2 weeks, I returned the phone and cancelled the plan. Why? Mainly because the phone was practically unusable. Battery life was terrible - I always feared the battery would die mid-day. Also, Sprints text messaging system was abhorrent and their wireless internet seemed very slow. Finally, there was no way to port your own pictures from your pc to the phone.
Today I checked the Sprint PCS site and found the plans have basically
remained the same, except they have now included "unlimited" data transfer (Vision) at no cost. I know why they changed this. For the first several months after Vision was introduced, there were many problems. It was slow, intermittently unavailable, etc. I'm sure it's better now, but probably not that much better. They probably realized they could not justify charging their customers $15/mo. for such a shoddy service.
I also checked the AT&T site today site but could not find the same '1000 anytime for $40' promotion I have now. This promotion may still be available from some retailors, but I am not sure about it.
I'm not saying Sprint is terrible. In fact I thought the Business Connection service was great ($5 more though), as was their Voice Command service (also more $$). And their new Sanyo SCP-5300 phone with the built-in camera
and flash looks pretty good.
But at the end of the day, I just felt I was not getting enough value for the money I was paying to Sprint. So, I switched to AT&T GSM, picked up this incredible T68i, and I have absolutely no regrets. Now I just want that frickin P800 to come out!

Maybe you bought the fone outside the US and it may be locked to some network. Make sure it is open line first.

I used a T68i for a year and I travelled to UK and Germany many times. I had T Mobile and the phone worked great. The only problem with T Mobile GSM in the USA is when you travel far outside the major urban centers....then you simply have no signal! Stay close to the urban centers and all is good.
