> Generic UK 2.1 update - disaster?
Bookmark topic
I recently updated to 2.1, but it's been a headache! Battery life has become poor, with the same type of use as with 1.6. I could get two full days on 1.6.
The Task manager always shows lots of programs running even after a kill all, whereas everything would stay dead on 1.6.
Signal (Vodafone) keeps dropping, a lot; but didn't on 1.6. The task manager 'kill all' would kill the signal, as well!
Unlock screen and pattern is sometimes unresponsive.
I also think too many cool, little features being taken away isn't good.
No more auto brightness, no option for it, anymore.
Auto word suggestion
Many other things.
What do you think?

Hi 5H4K
Ya I've noticed a few things on 2.1 as well, still doing a total run through before I blog a review.
The auto brightness is now default. The auto brightness feature (just like the iPhone) is not completely automatic. The slider defines a general brightness and the 'auto' function just adjust slightly within that range.
It still works, try covering the light sensor for a bit and you'll see that the screen dims a little.
The signal seems weird to me too... dunno if it's just more accurate or it's really dropping.
Auto word suggestion still works. It might be disabled by default on the UK kit, but it works on mine.
Unlock screen seems less responsive on the Menu button, but fine on the Home Button. Dunno if they switched default unlock buttons.
Which Task Manager are you running? If it's ATK, set the security to low, and exclude the Task Manager itself.
What new apps have you installed?

There's actually 3 options in the power control widget for brightness. 1. Lowest brightness 2. Auto brightness 3. Highest brightness. So you still have the option, just not at the place you're expecting it to be. I find the new functionality absolutely practical. Task killer would kill signal but other than that I haven't experienced signal fluctuations yet. Yes, the unlock slider misses its cue sometimes but no more than the previous arc slider which I find on the other hand, more natural to operate. Performance has increased at where 3rd party audio apps are concerned. I prefer the previous auto correct functionality but it's still there even if it's not set as default. Overall, no real complaints here

Yes, the buttons are switched. The menu button only works if you press is shotly after the screen has got black. The home and the power buttons always work.

Very happy, flashed through Davinci and I love my mini pro even more on 2.1.
Fast, fast, fast. Everything is smoother imo. Marketplace apps run faster, there's more choice etc.
Live wallpapers look awesome, where they on 1.6? Never saw 'em but nice to have all the same.
HSDPA is it? Much more reliable internet now. Wi-Fi works better, properly auto-connects without messing about.
Menu's are more sensibly laid out as well. Auto screen rotate so you don't have to use keyboard every time!
Texting is better, you get a bit more space to type in and the HORRIBLE light blue them has been banished forever. Hurrah!
I could go on.

I rolledback mine to 1.6 ... reason I wanted to change the to a different CDA and then update to 2.1 ...
Still going to update ....
My previos 2.1 was having too many "Force Stop" errors ... and restarts ...
I'll post feedback after updating to 2.1 again ...
2.1 was cool for a moment just after I updated but then the problems started ...
