I'm using Kik.
I wrote a short review about it.
Whatsapp currently holds the best cross platform compatibility... that's only because RIM got scared of KIK and kicked them out of App World.
Kik is a lot faster, more reliable, and more power efficient. But unfortunately, politics has dictated that evolution be halted.
Whatsapp works on Android, Symbian (Beta), iOS, and BB
Kik world only on Android and iOS at the moment since their BB client was pulled by RIM
Kik got 1 million subscribers in 2 weeks.

I honestly prefer Kik, but if you want BB or Nokia compatibility, then you can go with whatsapp or pingchat.
Just choose the one which most of your friends can be on.
I really wish BB would put Kik back on App World. It's a really great system they have going.
But in the end, the number of end users will dictate which is the best one.

I use pingchat have you tried it it has Iphone/blackberry and android suport, uses your phonenumber and suports push.
what is kik?
pingchat is nice, it's cheaper to send "mms" over pingchat (flatrate) and it does not resize your photos you can send big files wich is great i think.
Trying KIK am i doing it wrong? don't see any button for adding images vidoes or sound to your message?
EDIT. found it, you cant send any files on kik, who needs text only, when you have IM like msn/yahoo and so on, and not forget SMS UNINSTALLING right away!

SKIBBE, yes, Kik can only do text.
The only issue I have with Pingchat is that it's slow. Slower than YM which is already slow to chat with.
If i had to choose between Pingchat and YM, I'd rather go with YM. More people can chat with me on YM... and they both chew up battery anyway. YM has better icons, and a wider user base already. But I also get a lot of dropped and undelivered IMs and I don't know which ones are delivered and which ones are just lost all together.
What I like about kik is that it's fast... realtime chat... even faster than YM and MSN desktop counterparts.
Delivery receipts of kik are at par, if not better than BBM.
If I wanted to send pics, files or video, I just send via email anyway...
and, I can leave Kik on the whole day with minimal battery hit. Even chatting doesn't drain half as much as pingchat or YM.
But yes, you're right... both Pingchat and YM offer better messaging experiences and features. If only they fixed the battery consumption and performance issues
