I just upgraded my BT drivers and software using the instructions/software
provided by c0mm0n. This went fine, but once I'd finished I discovered that I only had firmware revision 272 on my MS-6967 USB dongle (I had been unable to tell before, the Bluetooth Configuration control panel wouldn't say).
Since c0mm0n recommended having the latest version (and I was annoyed at not being able to get PBTM working), I tried to upgrade the firmware. I opened the Microstar Device Firmware Upgrade program and selected the fw147 file which is included in the bt45.exe file available for download on the
MSI website.
The first thing I noticed was that a red cross appeared on the Bluetooth taskbar icon, and the "New Hardware Found" bubble appeared in the taskbar (I'm using WinXP Pro SP1). The other response was that a dialog box appeared saying something like "Upgrade failed. No response for 10 minutes".
Now, Bluetooth doesn't work, the device is just listed as an unknown USB device in Device Manager, attempting to reinstall the driver (by pointing Windows to the tdkdata1 folder setup during c0mm0n's instructions) just results in "There were no drivers found for your hardware", and trying to redo the Firmware Update just results in a message saying the device could not be accessed.
Is the receiver (MS-6967) now lost forever? Do I need to send it back to MSI for repair? Or can I somehow restore things myself? Thanks very much for any help anyone can provide!

That was sad to hear. Have you tried to reinstall the suplied software? What version was the firmware?

Phew! Well I have now uninstalled & reinstalled everything (following c0mm0n's instructions again), and am relieved to say it's working again! Sorry about panicking slightly.
The firmware revision is still 272. So I suppose the question is: how can I now go about upgrading it safely? (Do I need to at all?) It takes about 45 mins to reinstall everything, so I'd rather not go through all that again!
