I didn't get any rumour but just assume if SE upgrd P800 to support EDGE, then would it be worthy? Is the GPRS speed
enough for MP4 streaming? (this is just like what Motorola did with T720-->T725 the first phone with EDGE support)
I feel they will do this, as last year we saw T68m become T68i instead of firmware upgrd to support MMS.

Oh, and the t68m/i mms, it was meant to be mms capable already when released, still it took them half a year to keep their promise.

i know it is not cheap since it is an alternate solution for network operator to upgrd to 3G. But the marketing articles we read about EDGE is it could be cheaper to implement compare to full 3G network.
So it could be possible P800 will get a facelift + firmware-lift to support EDGE.
Down side of course is the speed is 110++Kbps if i am not mistaken. (3G could be a few mega bps)

I never heard of any EU operators moving to EDGE. Here in the US, however, all three GSM operators are implementing it this year. It would be awesome if a software upgrade could fix that - does anyone have any insider information on if the P800 hardware is designed to be able to do that?
A T-Mobile data support guy mentioned that "most phones" would be able to support EDGE after a SW upgrade.

For me, the P800 is the best GSM can get. I wouldn't want a 3G phone that's as big as the P800. By the time 3G (EDGE, WCDMA, UMTS, or whatever) comes out, I want a phone that has at LEAST a 320x240 16-bit touchscreen, mp4 rotating video cam, at the MOST 20mm thick, thinner margins around the screen.
The P800 is a great phone. I love it. But by 3G standards, it's way to fat, and the screen just isn't up to par with 3G capabilities.

Hopefully all of the vendors will follow the 3GPP standard in video and go for the 3gp video format instead of mp4. This will ensure the interoperability between the different vendors.

The 3GGP video standard IS mp4. Difference is the audio codec is AAC not MP4 audio
