Samsung today announced four new touch screen smartphones running Android 2.2. The Galaxy Mini, Galaxy Gio, Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Ace
Esato News

The four new devices expands Samsungs Android smartphone line-up to the broader consumer market. A formal way to say we have a couple of new entry-level phones for sale. They are all running Android 2.2 Froyo and should be considered phones for the first time Android user. Branding the phones with the Galaxy name will probably push the sales figures, but could in the long term dilute the Galaxy brand. Galaxy used to be phones with those few extra features. Now, the Galaxy name is becoming anything from Samsung with a touch screen. The average consumer will have difficulties noticing the differences between the Galaxy Mini and Galaxy Fit. Samsung Galaxy Fit has a 5 megapixel camera while the Mini S5570 has a 3 megapixel camera. Apart from the camera, most features are the same. We are mentioning a few:Networks: GPRS/EDGE, 2G 850/900/1800/1900, 3G 900/2100They both weigth 108 gramDimentions: 110 x 61 x 13 (mini: 12) mm. Its starting to get to the point where you just cannot tell the difference between models in terms of looks. Nothing like Sony Ericsson with their unique designs Samsung are becoming too common now and rather samey

Samsung (and LG) have always been flooding the market with cheap touchscreen phones, now with Android, because these phones are, what teenagers want.
Seems they are very succesful with this policy.
I doubt, whether this is good for the name "Galaxy", though. Sure, the kids will be happy to be able to buy a cheap Galaxy, but the owner of an expensive Galaxy S or Armani probably will be less thrilled with these cheap versions.

And to reply to laffens question : no, I would never consider buying one of these, because, imo, they're for kids and/or unexperienced users.
