hi all

So I have a BIG trip planned for this year, departing August...

Any who, I have had to make some slight changes with my connecting flights. Basically, I need to get from Stansted Airport to Gatwick Airport.

Ive done some research, so far it seems the National Express Bus does transfers, or I can get the train. Bus is less complicated, but takes about 1+ hr longer (3ish hrs total). Where as train is a shorter journey, but a little more difficult in that I need to take 2 different routes ( i think)

The bus is about 30gbp'ish, not sure what it would cost to go the train route. Any ideas?

Well, thats it.... Anyone have any advice in terms of best travel methods between the airports or?

thanks in advance

The train would be fast but it depends on weather you are more interested in time saving or cost saving.

I would get the easybus (http://www.easybus.co.uk/) from Stansted to Baker street which is nice and cheap and can be as little as £2 if booked early. Then get the train from Victoria to Gatwick (http://www.southernrailway.com/) again cheap if booked early. To get from Baker Street to Victoria is easy by bus.

If its connivence you are after then the one National Express coach that goes between the two airports is best.

Transport for London has a good website that has a travel planner, maps ect ect

thanks p900 lover, great info!

I arrive at Stansted at 9:40pm, then the next morning I have to depart Gatwick for Athens at 9.10am (check in between 7.10-830)...

Still undecided if ill stay the night near Stansted, or go to Gatwick that night and sleep somewhere there. Currently leaning to going to Gatwick, that way if anything should go wrong, I have the night (albeit a little late) to sort it out!

also, if its a week day you don't want to be trying to get through, or even around London at that time of the day

im assuming you are referring to leaving Stansted in the morning masseur? Bit of chaos with trains/traffic?

yes, from Stanstead to Gawtick your choice are through London, or around the M25.
Neither are particularly nice during morning commute.

@masseur, will defo be doing the transfer the night I get in...

@p900 lover
EasyBus sounds, um, 'easy' enough.... Google Maps says it should take approx 15 mins to get from Baker St (google maps says its in Paddington? Hopefully im looking at the correct one ) to Victoria, assuming we are referring to Victoria Station here yes? Which bus would I be looking to catch from Baker St to Victoria?

cheers

Baker street is a couple of stops on the tube from Paddington, but from Baker street you'll take the 82 or 2 bus to Victoria station (I did it in my last but 1 contract every day for a year and a half!). Tube will require changes, which you won't want if you've got suitcases. 15-20 mins would be about right. Bus takes you down the end of Oxford street, down Park Lane past Hyde Park and down the side of Buckingham palace, though the walls actually prevent you seeing anything of Buckinghuge palace! (do you know how green was my cactus!)

I might be able to put you up as I'm currently less than 10 mins from Gatwick door to door, but we're thinking of moving in late UK summer so may not be in the area. lets chat nearer the time.

Thanks for the info

What is the name of the bus company that operates the 82 or 2 bus to Victoria? Doing a search brings quite a few options and not sure if im looking at the correct one...

I will be backpacking for this trip, so wont have any suitcases, just one of those travel backpacks. Even so, I think id prefer the bus over the tube, get to see a little more (i think).

Thanks for the offer masseur, sounds great! Though I wouldn't want to put you out. Id be getting in at approx 9.40pm at Stansted, so by the time I check out and get to Baker St via EasyBus, it would be fairly late in the evening...

London Transport (www.tfl.gov.uk). These are standard London busses and will be every few minutes.
