At the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland this week, Saab announced a car infortainment system powered by the Android operating system

Saab Automobile company was in financial trouble last year, but was saved in the last hour when Spyker bought the company from General Motors. Saab now has a couple of new models for 2011, and some of them will have the new car infotainment system called IQon installed. The IQon combines the best from the mobile industry with Saab's automotive knowledge to create a infotainment system for the next generation of Saab cars. Saab will offer developers access to more than 500 signals from sensors in the car. These are speed, location and direction, driver workload, steering wheel angle, angine speed and torque, temperatures, barometric pressure and the sun's position! The advantages of having Android as the operating system is that car owners will have access to applications developed by third-party providers and the OS will be up to date at all times. Compared to conventional car infotainment systems where the infotainment system is shipped as-it-is when the car is new. The display is 8 inch large and the system will connect to Internet when the ignition is switched on.Applications developed for the IQon system must be tested and approved by Saab before it is available to customers through the online Saab IQon store.

My guess is that Saab will have to see and verify the source code before any app are released to the IQon store.
